Need help finding scope base.
« on: February 08, 2025, 01:50:09 PM »
So my dad got a new scope for his rifle and when I went to mount it for him I have come to an issue. The new scope he got is a 34mm tube, and be bought new rings for it. His old scope was a 40+ year old bushnell with weaver rings.
The new rings need a bigger cross slot in the base. It needs the size slot like picatinny rails have, not weaver style.
The bases on the rifle were 2 #11 weavers.
The rifle is an old 1917 Enfield 30-06 that had no original base mount holes and was drilled and tapped later. So I am having an extremely difficult time finding a new base to go with his new scope and rings.
The hole spacing is 2 holes in front and 2 in rear, they are .504 or so apart, allowing 2 piece weaver #11s. The hole spacing between the rear hole in the front and front hole in the rear is 4.20"
I can't seem to find anything that matches up that will give a larger cross slot.
Please, any help is a giant help.

I have just taken a round file and opened up the cross slot. The slot does not really do anything but provide a spot for the screw to pass through.
If, that is, I am understanding your issue correctly.

Might check with Warne.

I think you can even get blanks and make your own holes.

Geometry and elevations where it meets the receiver would be key.

The cross slot does take recoil.

Remove the bases and have the cross slots milled to Picatinny specs.

Remington model 7 uses weaver #11 for the front. Could scrounge up a few of those but honestly it's probably easier to return his rings and just buy weaver compatible rings.
