High Buck Tripod Selection
« on: April 15, 2025, 11:00:44 AM »
Moreso just opening this up to see what tripods people like using for the high buck or lightweight tripods in general. I have been using wiser precisions trekking pole adapters as my tripod. Curious what others are running.

Exo mountain gear 4800, I’m not caring unneeded stuff into the back country.

Been using a Sirui T-024SK since 2020 and recently swapped the VA-5 head for the Tricer LP. Great glassing setup.

Glassing tripod is pretty necessary on a backcountry mule deer hunt.

Lots of great options out there these days. Been using an outdoorsmans setup for about 13 years now and haven't seen a reason to change it up. No way I'd pay what they want for one now though.

I have the same tripod but running the VA 5 head. How does the Tricer LP compare? Was it worth the upgrade?

Night and day difference with the weight. Prefer the handle on the Tricer too.

But don't let this dissuade anyone from buying my VA-5 in the classifieds!  :chuckle:

Also using a VA-5, but have been interested in the Wiser Precision panhead.  No personal experience with it yet though.

I have the VA-5 head on my larger tripod and the Amazon SmallRig head on a Sirui Compact Traveler 5C for the lightweight tripod.  I would probably do both the same way if I had to start over.

Leupold Alpine-425 with a Smallrig C10 head. Honestly, I would like to upgrade to a heavier duty tripod for most glassing. I like bigger optics.

There are indeed lots of great options.

I have the Vanguard Veo2 Carbon. Dollar for dollar and ounce for ounce, I don't know that there's a better one on the market (that is, once you realize the terrible, springy rubber feet that come on the tripod can be removed).

Good luck on the high buck!

The pack works well for that also.

Think I'm going on 9 or 10 years with the slik 624. WP nighthawk head, pretty solid setup for the weight.
