It really is a good bill, with little cost. It also creates accounts where ngos can pocket and amass money that can only be used for wildlife crossing, which is super helpful to build a kitty for those projects and pooling resources.

If you don't want to use the BHA action alert, you can just go straight to the leg pages.

The legislature needs to fix our failing bridges before considering this type of legislation.

so that's actually an interesting point. Right now, if they are working on a construction project (like a failing bridge), there's no WSDOT requirement for them to consider any modifications or design features that ensure the new bridge is less bad for connectivity. This bill creates an efficiency so that at the same time they look at the failing bridge, they look at improvements in the repair/replacement for wildlife benefit. It also creates the account where money for those improvements can pull from.

yes, we have failing infrastructure that need fixing. Yes, it's a slow process with a huge backlog. But it's also wildly cost-inefficient to fix those things without considering that you can kill two birds with one stone without tying $ up from WSDOT money to hit that second bird.

I definitely approve adding wildlife crossings to every bridge. As this will help all hunters manage predators.
