Alaska bear hunt
« on: September 06, 2025, 06:55:44 PM »
This year I got the opportunity of my life. My cousin who owns a guide service in Alaska called me. He said he had a client cancel on really short notice. He said if I could get up there he would take me on a bear hunt. I told him I was on my way. It was a great hunt and adventure.

That’s awesome!  Congrats on a beautiful bear

Congrats. Looks like a blast and on every hunters list of dream hunts. Really hoping to move to Alaska at some point, even if it was just for 4 or 5 years. Probably the only way I will get to do a hunt like that with the cost/requirement of a guide for non residents. We saw a beaut on our DIY moose hunt up there last year that would have been nice to be able to shoot. Are you doing a rug or something different? I have a full body black bear mount in my house that takes up quite a bit of space, I cant imagine the room that Bear would take up as a life-size mount

The size of that paw and claws!

Impressive bear! A dream hunt for sure.
Can you give a perspective of the logistics someone could expect on a bear hunt like that?

The travel logistics. I flew into Anchorage first then a flight to Nome on Alaska airlines. When I arrived in Nome I had booked a flight into the village with Bering Air on a 9 passenger plane. This cost around $1500 round trip. This is where the guide or in my case my cousins son picked me up and we went on a 45 minute boat ride to their main hunting cabin. The next day we traveled by Argo for 4-5 hrs to where we would be tent camping in an attic oven tent for the rest of the hunt. License and tags. I purchased my Non resident hunting and fishing license online which was about $240 . When I arrived at the main camp I purchased my grizzly tag which was $1000 and a black bear tag which is $450. On the way back I had to pay for extra check bags and overweight fees to get everything back. Any other questions feel free to ask

Well done! Glad you could capitalize on that opportunity. I want one just like that! Sounds like a smooth operation. Plug for the guide service/ family member?

Awesome, congrats!  Is your Cousin open to adopting an older, broken, but very nice gentleman?  :)
