My Kansas 2025 Buck
« on: December 14, 2025, 05:13:39 PM »
My first Kansas buck.  Lots of deer, but tough finding a mature buck in December.  My goals were a mature buck and thick-horned.

Nice!  I really should do that.  Daughter lives in Wichita.

Saw the biggest buck of my life while living in Kansas. They love to be in the tall grass in the wide open fields.

This was the only other mature buck we saw.  Loved the mass and length of the eyeguards.  He was an old buck.

Love the pic of the old deer with the eyeguards too.  Didn't come close enough for a shot?

I saw the old buck on day 2 of a 5 day hunt.  Wasn't ready to punch my tag yet.

Dang.  You've got more willpower than me.  I'd have killed him just for those eyeguards!  :yike:

The wind was really blowing on our first day of the hunt, so didn't see many deer.  The old 3x3 showed himself first thing in the morning on day 2 and then we never saw him again.  Not knowing what to expect as far as quality of deer goes, I didn't want to shoot the first mature buck I saw when I had 3.5 more days to hunt.  I probably would have shot him on day 4 if he would have made another appearance.

Bone,
we were hunting about an hour or so northwest of Wichita.  No Muleys around there.  I guess they're mostly on the West side of the state.

Thank you.   There was one there a year or two ago that was unreal and had gathered attention.   People have asked if I'd go there.  Ha, thats a roadtrip!
