Information wanted, please.
« on: March 09, 2007, 07:36:41 AM »
I live in the south-west end of Stevens County, last two years so I don't know a whole lot yet, and I would like to know where I could drive to to shoot some rock chucks? I've been told that SW of Spokane there are good places to go, but I have no clue how far SW. I'm not asking for pin point directions but just a round about figure.
thank you,
Scott

I've seen a bunch of them around sun lakes state park...dry falls lake area, south of coulee city. not sure if that  helps you or not if you want to drive that far.

I was thinking around banks lake or coulee city.  Thats about the closest I can think of for you.  I don't remember there being many, but there were a few southof Chewelah, by Springdale, but most of that is private land I think.

Thank you. Private land might be good if the farmer is not happy with holes in the fields. Don't know if WA farmers and ranchers are as unhappy with hole digging critters as Montana people are, but I am sure I'll find out soon.

Huge, vast amounts of BLM land just south of Hwy 2.  Teleford Road, Seven Springs Dairy Road and the creek bottom between Twin Lakes in that area.  Literally MILES of rock chucks and no homes as far as you can see, which in that country is a looong ways.  About a 45 minute drive past Fairchild AFB.

Willie,

It is illegal to shoot some marmots, and some are legal. ;)

Krusty,

No, what I mean is... there are as many as 5 different types of marmots in this state, and some are listed as "protected"  while some are not.
