I wouldn't recommend the Leavenworth area for elk. Unless you really don't want to see any.  Why Leavenworth ???

go to wdfw.wa.gov and click through to the hunting section.  There you will find harvest statistics by GMU for elk.  You can get a pretty good idea by looking at that where the elk are.  Here is the link http://wdfw.wa.gov/hunting/harvest/2009/elk_general.html

The only place around Leavenworth I have ever seen any elk was up on Blewett Pass, South of Leavenworth on 97.

Almost no elk north and east of Leavenworth, few elk west of leavenworth, some elk south and east of Leavenworth.  Odds of tagging an elk or Sasquatch north of Highway 2 are pretty comparable, odds of tagging an elk south of Highway 2 are just low.
As long as we have the habitat, we can argue forever about who gets to kill what and when.  No habitat = no game.

Why do you think that is? The country looks good. I would figure the some of the Colokum herd would move around up in there.

There is an any weapon, any elk season in the GMUs north of Highway 2, intended to minimize elk.

Does the dept of F&W not want them to establish there?  Most of the orchards are to the south if I remember right.

I would be curious to hear the game department's take on it.

Just look at the harvest reports as dreamingbig suggested. Look at the Chiwawa GMU (245.)

I believe that the game department's take on it is that they want the quality mule deer to be the priority there.

The only place around Leavenworth I have ever seen any elk was up on Blewett Pass, South of Leavenworth on 97.

On one of my early summer camping trips up there a few years back, top of the pass going towards Tronson meadows I found all kinds of Elk skeletons, I think more than a few had been butchered there.  I've seen some huge Bulls East of there in the Table Mt. area, whole lotta young ones.

Never seen Elk near Leavenworth, a few Masons though... :chuckle:
