8MM Lebel

Catwithboost got some ammo from someone and it had a couple of strange cased rounds in with them. I looked them up and discovered this:
French (8 mm Lebel) rifle cartridge was the first smokeless gunpowder cartridge to be made and adopted by any country. It was introduced by France in 1886. Formed by necking down the 11 mm Gras black powder cartridge, the smokeless 8 mm Lebel cartridge started a revolution in military rifle ammunition. It was also first to feature a boat-tailed bullet ( Balle D ) which was adopted in 1898.

These particular cases also were marked REM UMC on the head. This is Remington Union Metallic Cartridge. Quite a bit of history behind these pieces.
Some people spend their entire life wondering if they made a difference. Marines don't have that problem.
He who shed blood with me shall forever be my brother.
