New Foxpro Spitfire or Used Foxpro FX3???
« on: February 17, 2011, 01:27:17 PM »
Can't decide which one to buy..  I'm no expert on Electronic Calls.

A buddy has an FX3 that he is willing to sell me for $175 or I can get a new Spitfire off ebay for $179.  Both have 24 sounds and I believe similar remote ranges..  I've read everything I can find on the Spitfire and it seems to have great reviews except for maybe the volume distinction between levels is slightly drastic.

I've used his FX3 a bunch and like it and honestly don't know what makes it twice as much $$ as the Spitfire?  One benefit is that it's camo but the remote only displays a number which signifies the sound. The new spitfire actually has a readout of the call name.. i.e. "Male Challenge".. etc.  I believe both have an aux. port and you can add additional sounds to both.

Have a hard time spending esentially the same $$$ on a used call that seems to do the same things as a new one??

So what's everyone's thoughts??? Someone who knows more about the FX3 please enlighten me!!! Thanks

I upgraded to the FX5 when it was introduced.  Price was ridiculous if I remember right $699, I believe through FoxPro.
Shortly after (and the guy at Fox Pro warned me) they came out with a few newer models that appeared to me to be as good or better that my FX5 for half the price, and you could download other sounds that were non-FoxPro with them.  Hence, newer might be more advanced, but I'm not certain.  I am certain though, that I nearly always use only the front speaker on mine and use one of three sounds to get my best results, so, I would say 24 would be more than plenty of sounds.  Also, remote ranges might be similar, but I know one remote seems to work much better than the other, and I'm thinking it was the newer model one.

I believe some of the older models required you to send Foxpro the call to have them change the sounds for you (not sure if the FX3 is like that) but one nice thing about the spitfire is that you change the sounds on the fly whereever you are just so long as you have another memory card with different sounds on it and a head phone jack cable to change the names that show up on your remote. Ive never used an FX3 but what Ive heard is that the spitfire isnt as loud as most of the other models but you can buy louder external speakers and hook them up on the fly as well. I personally bought the SPitfire last year and am pretty happy with it. It uses 4 AA batteries and they seem to last fovever (I bought  batteries three times for all of last year and the one time was because I forgot it on for about a week) though I dont have any external speakers so I dont know how long they would last with them on. Seems like it was plenty loud enough though considering I called in black bear, bobcat and coyotes with it.

Good Info.  That's what I'm thinking..  The FX3 technology 5 years ago that cost $399 seems to be similar to the Spitfire's technology now for $179.  I'm in the same boat..  I used maybe 5 calls on the FX3 when I've borrowed it from my buddy over the years.

Ok thanks for the info.  I'm fairly new to the predator hunting but looking through the sounds that come loaded on the Spitfire, I can't think of anything else I would want right now?  I'm mainly going to be coyote hunting only so I'm thinking what's on there should work ok.  After getting some more experience and maybe talking to some guys on here I'll probably want to get a few other sounds.

:)I just think the FX3 is a little more versitile, more options. either will work well. Go to the foxpro site in the forums they sell used and refurbished callers.
