Show us what you made with your antlers
« on: March 13, 2011, 09:59:07 AM »
I'm gonna start this topic with a lamp that I just made, took about 4 hours and cost about 20.00, one of the ways that I spend time when the weather is bad or cant get out doors,  it makes it easier to take a day off work to go horn hunting, post pictures of lamps, coat racks, knife handles, anything that your proud of from antlers that you find, also I'm looking for new ideas and this is a good place to start.

just the thought of drilling or cutting a shed makes me  :'(.  looks good tho! as bad as it sounds i would rather pay big money for one then hurt my own babies! :chuckle: They look much more comfortable in stacks in the corner of my man cave.

I make a couple piles around the house. I always tell my wife ive just got to find a few more then i'll make something. I just cant bring myself to cutting or drilling into one.

Here is a few items, from key chains to lamps. I made the big deer lamp along time ago and it has seen better days and I didnt hide the wire, but its still cool.

The lamps look great!

I have people I know that ask why I don't make something out of all my horns but like most of the other guys on here I can't bare the thought of hurting one of them. :'(

You sound like my buddy, he would rather buy a few from ebay to build a lamp before he drills into his own, but trust me it gets easy when they are flowing out of you doors and you have them shuffed in every corner. I have used my own antlers on all my projects and it hasnt maid a dent on the stash. Plus you can go out next year and replace them. I have also givin away a crap load. I do regret selling about 300 pounds back 2004, I had some good sheds I wish I still had!

I used to feel that way to, and I have a few choice monsters that I would never alter, but I have a large pile of bone and starting to trip over the dang things.

Maybe you can use them to make a fence for your chicken coop....   :chuckle:  Nice pile of antlers, and good looking chickens.

If they really bother you stuffed in every corner of your house, you could just give me what you find this year and then you wont have so many.

What is the market on "raw horn"? And who do you sell too?
I have a few in the yard that the squirrels are eating, maybe I should bring them inside.

The trick to making a lamp or coat rack look good takes time and it took me years of collecting before I felt ready to make a lamp, I started with a how to tape I picked up at one of those sportsman shows, the finished product should look  like a unaltered natural shed antler, that looks as good as the day you found it.
