I did not measure his pads. They were wider than my hands though. That doesn't tell you a whole lot though.

OK guys. I am half computer illiterate so lets see if I can post a pic. First off, I have to apologize in advance for the pictures. I am almost embarrassed to put this one up compared to some of the great photo's on here. Not a good way to show off or do justice to a good animal but its all I have. Pictures are not high on my list of priorities when I get an animal down and its always a regret later. This is the only pic that turned out at all on my camera. They really suck. Anyways, I am not overly big but not small either. I am 6'1" 220lbs just to put the pic in prospective. I started to rug out the hind quarters with a mini mag on the hill and decided to finish at home with good light so his lower half is skinned in the picture. I do have some cell phone pictures that are kind of blurry but better I just have to figure how to get that on my computer. I took the rug to my taxidermy and was hoping to talk to him but he was having a surgery done. The lady that checked it in said it was a nice average 150 lb bear. I was pretty disappointed thinking I was becoming a *censored* in my old age. I took my meat to the butcher boned out completely with no fat, hide, or anything just meat. I lost most of one front shoulder with my last shot from 10' and cut that out so that was not part of what I took to the butcher. I had a total of 147 lbs of boned out meat. I was hoping someone on here with better bear knowledge then me can give me a decent guess to live weight. Also, the blaze on his chest is about 10" across and 8" long it just does not look like it in the picture.

Too bad about not getting enough pics. I would suggest picking up one of the smaller Canon digitals for your pack.

Here is how I would estimate your bears weight based on some of mine. Some numbers are rounded for easier math.
You said aprox 150# boned out meat.
If the hide was fleshed half decent with skull in I would give 75#.
Bones would get at least 50#.
For a total of 275# plus about 25# for guts makes it aprox 300# live weight.
Though it could go about 25# either way, I would say this is a fair estimate based on the photo.

 :twocents:

Either way it is a nice bear. Congrats again and thanks for sharing.

Most animals will maintain about 35-38% of their body weight as pure meat.  That would put yuor bear near 400lbs, live weight.  With your stating you had 147lbs of boneless meat.  Damn Nice bear.
I didn't say it was your fault, I said I was blaming you.
If I ageed with you, then we'd both be wrong.
You are never to old to learn something stupid.

Nice bear, great job.
Handle every stressful situation like a dog. If you can't eat it or destroy it, piss on it and walk away!
