Eastern Washington deer hunting
« on: May 09, 2011, 06:50:31 PM »
I am new to Eastern Washington and fairly new to deer hunting. Has anyone done much deer hunting in Eastern Washington and (without divulging any favorite locations:), where are some good areas with decent bucks? I hunted for 3 days last year around Colville but without much luck. Any advice people have would be much appreciated!!!

Should be plenty of deer in your back yard. All us wet siders come over there.

Most people are pretty tight lipped about any hot spots, especially when someone asks on their very first post about hunting spots. Just treat it as if you were hunting out of state and call your local biologist for info. Now is a good time to maybe start knocking on a few doors in the Chattaroy area offering some of your labor in exchange for hunting permission. :twocents: Good luck to you and welcome to the site.

Colville is a good area but scouting is important. Spend some time looking at maps, talking to fish and wildlife and doing your research. Once you have some areas of interest, take a few weekend drives and burn some boot leather learning the region. Good luck.

the best way to get deer in eastern washington is from your truck.  have about 2-3 of your buddies in the back with a cooler of beer and some chips if you like.  make sure they have their camo clothes and face paint on their faces is a must. just drive around until a trophy pops out in front of you.  no really.  please just stay in your truck and one will most definatly pop up and all of you can take turns shooting at it from the back of the truck.   guaranteed!!.  make sure you tell all your buddies to participate.  so the next time i am cruising through the back roads and see this........i can keep laughing

These bucks were taken not to far to the north and east of where you hunted last year.  You have to get out and put the miles in if you want to be successful.  There is tons and tons of land up there to hunt, you just have to put in the work.

Go buy a few maps for the state land area by were you live and scout it out. Talk to the hunting shops that are by you and talk to them the have the best idea in were to start. Talk to land owner, this is the best time of year to talk to land owners. You have some good hunting all around you just spend some time in the field

Instead of going north, go west on highway 2 to the town of Creston. Head south a few miles and there is 12,500 acres of DNR land called Swanson Lake. Sage brush and scab rock. There is deer out there. I shot a 116" three point out there. The only problem is there is a lot of preasure opening morning. Get there super early and get set and let everybody else move them around. Go scout it out now. Get to know the area. I even thought of using a tree stand on a power pole out there.

There are a lot of giant bucks in the region you hunted last year. Put in the time scouting and it will pay off during the season.
