My dad and I went snowmobiling out to our cabin in the North Fork Teanaway (GMU 335) and on the main road at about Indian Creek there were two different wolf tracks that came out onto the county road, walked right down the center and then went back up at about Middle Creek. We were the first ones up in the fresh snow and it was snowing hard, so we just missed them. One was bleeding from its paw or leg because every 4 or 5 steps there were some spots of blood in the road. Don't know if this helps or not? Thought i'd post it so everyone knows-

Yep, grundy is most likely correct, we saw this same thing in Idaho near the end of January when 2 wolves were traveling together....

You can look forward to more pups in the spring...  :yike:

I have mentioned that two people I know have seen wolves in GMU 108, now the same local trapper who got the pics of the smackout wolves has gotten a picture of a wolf in GMU 108.

That explains one smaller track and one bigger track-

GMU 111 - Jan 28,2012
A trapper friend just messaged and then called me:

He just seen where two wolves chased a moose down the Paradise Rd in GMU 111 for about 2 miles and followed the moose over the bank. He said the wolves were right on the moose's tail. The moose which appears to be a bull by the size of the tracks, tried to go uphill, you could see they caught him up there, had a little standoff and tore things up pretty good, then the moose broke downhill and went down across the road.

He says might go back up and walk the tracks out to see if the wolves finished killing the moose.

He has recent pictures this winter of several wolves in that area and it's likely that it was two of these wolves.

GMU 101 - January 2012 - Moose Killed by 3 wolves
Wolf tracks were found last week on S. Fork Sherman Creek Road. The guys followed the tracks 50 yards off the side of the road and found a fresh moose kill. It appears to be 3 wolves feeding on the kill. They set up trail cams and left. Hopefully they will get trail cam photos of those wolves as well. I have two different hunters who reported wolves this last hunting season 2011 near the same area. Wolf tracks have also been documented on Graves Mtn, Bridge Creek, S Sherman, and Barnaby Creek.

GMU 101
I tried to sort out tracks in the Sherman area and believe that pack to be 12 strong.   They are wreaking havoc on the muledeer on the South Kettle Crest.  I am seriously hoping the tribe gets involved as they are all over the northern boundary.

GMU 111
I wish I could get over to my place and check my cams. They was last checked Nov. 20th and I am sure the Batt. are about run out now. Unit 111

We did hear howls in Nov. up Frisco (Cedar creek). No sightings but positive they were wolves. I figured they were part of or a breakoff of the smackout pack since it's only a stones throw away.

They are spreading out fast.  :bash:

Colville Reservation   (south of GMU 101)
There is a new one establishing in Hellsgate.   I've seen strays(singles) several years now.   This year there were three working where they dumped the sheep.   I am hoping to catch them this spring down there on film.

Spokane Reservation   (south of GMU 121)
Across the river as well.  The same morning I saw 2-3 sets of tracks on a deer kill, my partner  saw 4-5 tracks in another spot on the spokane res, just a few miles away. They were not the same ones. :bash: :bash:

Here's a trailcam photo of a wolf near Meadow Lake in October, 2011, from the same trapper. It could be the same wolf as the one in GMU 108 which was taken not too far away, however, I think the coloration may be a little different.

Dale,

What is the stride distance of a wolf if the tracks are snowed in ? The ranchers over here have shown me tracks that have too much snow in them, but look like wolf tracks. I've heard of another one near Wauconda last week.

Thanks,
Campmeat

More wolf pics from my trapper friend who WDFW should hire to document Washington's wolves. This guy has got the location of numerous undocumented wolves figured out, just in his spare time.

This is why we think there are 2 packs in GMU 105. Lots of sightings on the Northport (east) side and there are sightings on the Orient (west) side.

Nov 3, 2011 wolf picture is on the east side of GMU 105 near Northport.

Another wolf picture from my trapper friend on the Orient side of GMU 105.

This could be one of the wolves that H-W members have been seeing near the Pierre/Summit Lake area. This is also very likely one of the wolves that's leaving wolf scat full of cattle hair. McIrvins lost over two dozen head of cattle this last year and there was wolf scat all over the area full of cattle hair.

There are 5 wolves running in this pack, the trapper only got a photo of this one so far. But numerous people have seen these wolves, seen the tracks, and heard this pack howling in the area.

Trailcam photo taken January 2, 2012.

I never measured them but according to this page:  http://washingtonwolf.info/identification.html

Tracks may be 24 to 36 inches apart, depending on size and how the wolf is moving. Take a look....
