Looks like cat, I only saw 4 toes--also looks like the front right paw.  Bears usually leave 5.

If cat, something else to hunt with the bow next month.
Had a cat on the trail behind me a couple years ago, my buddy was trying to film it. He called me on the radio after the cat ran off and said, "Hey you had a cat on the trail behind you".   :yike:
I told him to tell me sooner next time.   :bash:

Looks like cat, I only saw 4 toes--also looks like the front right paw.  Bears usually leave 5.

I would agree cat for sure, but I think it looks like left front?  Maybe I have this wrong but isn't the leading toe in the middle the indicator of which paw it comes from?  I think Machias would know for sure, maybe I have it backwards.  I'm sure Bearpaw can answer this for me as well.
I didn't say it was your fault, I said I was blaming you.
If I ageed with you, then we'd both be wrong.

I just checked out the link and I had it backwards, that does appear to be the right front foot.  My bad.

Gold Tip, I just use my hand as cougar prints usually follow the same pattern as a hand...so the hand that best matches the paw pattern would likely be the side of the animal.  If there was a hind paw print inside the front print, the hinds are narrower (about 2/3 the width) you might even be able to have a good guess of male vs female.  Lots of info in tracks.
