I'm going to send my kid to the trapper ed class. Do they teach anything about leg holds, or just the current trapping methods?

We do try to touch on all traps that are legal even those ones you have to obtain a special permit to use so yes.

Actually something Ive considered. Not quite sure if it would ever be used but I would love to have the option to trap. Ive always been interested in traps. But the kind I know about are none that are legal. Going to be a new learning curve.

I left Mr. Brady a message today and havent heard back but I just noticed that there are two different phone numbers listed for him.  Are they both correct?

George is really busy right now. He is receiving agent for FHA and a fur buyer. Season coming to an end. He may be in Seattle. Try (509)322-6844 or better yet give him a couple days.

Thanks for the reply.  As long as the message for to the correct place I can wait for a call back at his convenience, I am in no really hurry to get this done ASAP.  Thanks again!

Its that time of year again.....WSTA is having a Trapper Education class on December 7, 2013 in Littlerock.

Littlerock Fire Department
10828 Littlerock Rd SW
Olympia  98512

We start at 9am and try to be done by about 3 or 4pm. With any luck, Bruce or Adam will do a fur handling demo. Trapper Ed Manuals are available at the class (I think the cost is $10 or $15. I'll find out for sure after talking to the printer).  The class itself is free.  If you are planning to come, please let me know so there are enough books and materials. You can send me a PM or leave a message on the phone @ 360-264-5316.

Looking at the website and I notice there is no where really close by for the classes, I will have to do the home study.  For the test do I need to drive to one of these locations?

You can call George Brady (509-923-2326). He is in charge of the Trapper education Program. Maybe he can find an instructor who is closer to you so you can take the test. Have you looked at watrappers.com?   Not sure how far of a drive it is, but it's a really good class if you can make it.

George could maybe set you up with Ken Payne. He is an instructor and he lives in Bellingham. A little closer. Talk to George Brady about it.

I did the class last winter and would highly recomend it. Well worth the drive, very educational and informative.  They brought many different traps in to demo and did a skinning demo too. Good place to get questions answered. I was very happy i went to the class instead of doing the online thing.

To tell the truth Karens class is the only one in W Wa this year.  George does classes on the east side. We try to do at least one on the west side every year. The other instructors can do classes but they wait until we get calls. Only other person that takes the intiative to schedule a class is Ron Qualman near Bremerton.
Karen gives a very good class and is well worth spending a couple hours on the road to get there. No doubt in my mind you will learn enough to save you many times the few hours in traveling when you start trapping.
