If I took even a second to think about it, I would spend that second remembering the relaxing trail rides that have been turned into instant rodeos and then...whack!!

This is why I carry a .22 pistol, and why God gave them to us.

If I don't have a dog I'd be more then happy to shoot her on the ground. No chance of losing the bird that way.

I say ground pound it. I've shot them on the ground and in the air and my taste buds just can't tell the difference.

Why would you hesitate about shooting the grouse on the ground? Unless you thought it was an unsfe situation

Head shot for me on the ground, no pellets to spit out .  Option 2.....on the wing.
:yeah: love fresh grouse, I fry it up with some garlic and other spices.

I usually hesitate a bit if they are on the ground. I would prefer to take them on the fly. If they refuse to fly, I nail 'em.

If you let it fly, you might be spending the next 2 hours trying to find it. Shoot it now!

If you're just getting meat, then there's no reason to hesitate.  If you're hunting, then there is obviously a lot more to that than just killing by any means possible.
