Nothing quite like a steelhead from a boat. I do love the sturgeon fishing too Hoyt but sturgeon are sooooooo much easier to catch and are seldom lost once hooked. When you finally hook a steelhead your heart rate goes through the roof, your peripheral vision is heightened to the point of 350*, your toes and fingers no longer hurt from the cold, you all of a sudden treat your line like its 2lb test and you get more religious than you have been in the last 10 years. This happens every time to me and I catch my fair share, I bet its multiplied several times over for those that don't hook many.

I dont think winter/summer steelhead are really any harder to catch then big sturgeon..... but your right about keeping the fish on after the hook set and fighting them light, although plenty of big sturg spit the hook as well...... I just think a sturg is lik a 500lb mix of steelhead/salmon!

so true there... the days of past of area 9 salmon fishing in the summer have been gone for a long time now but those times at first light and the sunsets out at possesion both working on charters and my own boat were some of the best times and treasured memories with family and friends.

I enjoy flyfishing for steelhead, and chum, but that sturgeon fishing is pretty addicting, then high mountain cutts are pretty fun too.

It's gotta be Steelhead for me hands down! The way I try to explain it to most is "It never gets any less exciting ... My last was everybit as exciting as my very first!" And my first was 34 years ago! now how many other things can you say that about? ... well ok there is one other thing! but that's not fishing!
