so true there... the days of past of area 9 salmon fishing in the summer have been gone for a long time now but those times at first light and the sunsets out at possesion both working on charters and my own boat were some of the best times and treasured memories with family and friends.

We had a little 16 foot fiberglass boat, would get up before dawn fill a thermos with coffee go launch the boat then head out towards point pernell(sp) watching the sun rise drinking coffee all bundled up in wool.  We'd then troll off Camano (thats where we lived) I loved fishing it was the one thing I'd jump out of bed for at some crazy hour of the morning.  Caught my biggest fish with a lure I'd found on the beach using my dads old trout pole LOL......it was a whopping 8 lb blackmouth, dad gave me fat/split lip with the net when we were landing it  :chuckle: :chuckle: that was the best tasting fish ever...... ahhh to be a kid again fishing with my dad

Phool you have said a mouthful. I have allways said steel fish is like hunting to me. Then trying to land one once hooked.
Backwards Buck, I too miss fishing area 9, I have never caught a summer run steelhead because of it. Summers where area 9, winters on the Sky and the Pilchuck!
Phool I have never caught a steel from a boat, Have owned a few DBs and 1 sled. have a 16ft DB in the back yard now(Homemade FiberGlass) but allways seem to pull up on shore and fish the hole! LOL

Pulling plugs behind the drift boat, in the snow!!   Is the funnest thing on the plant to do.  One trip we went on down the Kalama river is still and always will be one of my best memories.  It was the best and last trip me and a "late" friend went on together.   We all limited and the biggest was 29lbs and the smallest was 17 lbs.  I lost 2 that day that where in the 30lb range.....sounds like the o'l one that got away story.   Great times and many more to come.
