The 6.5 Creedmoor walks all over the 7-08 across the board. Hundredths matter

I don't think so. Maybe if you're a target shooter who shoots out to 600 yards and further, it might have a slight advantage. But if you're a hunter who wants to shoot deer out to 300 yards, I seriously doubt there's any significant difference between the two.

Were getting the Ruger American Predator in 6.5 Creedmoor, paired with the Vortex Crossfire 4-12x44. Cant wait to hit the Range and clank some steel with this thing!  :IBCOOL:

That's the exact package I've been looking at for my wife who just passed her test a few weeks back. I'll be curious to hear your thoughts.

I think he was joking.

There are so many calibers available now, there is a ton of overlap. It reminds me of when I was shopping for a motorcycle. I would stress over these horsepower maps and spec sheets and eventually realized that under real world conditions, any one of the five bikes I was considering would be just fine. The factors the ended up influencing my decision were the market availability and most importantly, how I fit on the thing. If the one I didn't choose had 5 more horsepower at 7000 RPM, I never missed it.

I had a .308 which was my do-it-all rifle. That's a great idea on paper, but I realized that I get so few days in the field, and I think about hunting so often, that buying 2 rifles really pencils out long term. 6.5 Creedmoor is marginal on elk, at best. But the .308 isn't much better. So I decided to get the 6.5 for deer and under and a .300 winmag for anything more than that.

Out of all the intermediate options, I picked the Creedmoor for 3 reasons. One, my buddy had one he wanted out of, so he made me a great deal. Two, it's just a great cartridge within its limits. Three, the ammo is cheap. Good bullet construction drops in price over time. It seems that raw material cost doesn't. So eventually, a high tech bullet will be cheap, but brass, lead and powder seem to only ever get more expensive.

The 300 win mag is all you need for deer or elk. But dang all this talk I’m really feeling a need for a 6.5 Creedmoor. Gonna happen.
