Rendered Bear Grease

My wife is a soap maker. she has rendered deer and bear, and beef fat for soaps.  she uses a crock pot. (actually several) She doesn't use water but it renders quicker when the chunks of fat are in the hot liquid. bear fat made great soap, but then again so did the deer and Beef fat. the animal fat makes for a hard bar that lasts a long time. I think she had 5 large croc pots going in the garage at one time for a few weeks rendering fat... Smelled awesome in the garage.

Bear fat is my favorite part of a bear probably. All animals have meat but only bears have bear fat. I just cut it into cubes and render. No need to dirty your grinder or add water. Works great and the cracklings seasoned are amazing. High smoke point, great flavor and much better for you then cooking in Vegetable oil. I got 46 pints off my 420# bear this fall. Last year the two bears the wife and I got around 225# didn’t have hardly any fat.. man that was disappointing.

Shawn Ryan:

Rendered the fat from my bear and have been using the oil for all our cooking, including in chocolate chip cookies. Delicious.
