Glock 20 vs Glock 40
<< < (2/3) > >>
10mmg:
I have both as well. My 40 is set up as a hunting rig with a red dot and lighter 3 pound trigger. That said I carried the 20 in Alaska this year to save on weight. I am considering getting the 29 for pure defense purposes when in the way backs and weight matters. It will take the 20 mags for those with grandfathered mags.

I don’t think you can go wrong either way. I carry the 155gr underwood deep penetrators in mine. They carry more muzzle energy than the hard cast and the recoil is much more manageable with a copper solid designed to go deep. To each his own but that is what I went with.
TCHunter25:
I have the 40.  The longer slide and extra weight really soaks up recoil on the heavy hardcast bear-worthy ammo, but it is heavy and long.  When shooting, I am glad to have the 40, but on long hikes there are times where I wish I had the 20 instead.

The 20 is smaller, lighter, easier to holster, less accurate, and more recoil using the same rounds.

I dont have a 40, so my experience is mostly comparing on paper. If you are looking for a defense sidearm to carry while walking around the woods, weight and bulk matter a lot more than accuracy. If you are looking for a handgun for hunting, the opposite would be true.
Linkshander:
My two cents. I have a few different flavors of the Glock 10mms. The muzzle flip from the 40 to the 20 is negligible in my experience. You probably wont really notice it too much. If you do you can put one of KKM or lone wolfs offerings in the 20 to mitigate this. I personally lean towards a 20-SF for wandering around in the hills/fishing. I do not hunt with them. The 40 is a beast in the weight department and can be a bit big in a chest rig. Of all of them the G29 goes on the most outings as it the lightest, I can conceal it if need be, and it will accept the standard capacity G20 mags if you opt for more capacity. They are all terrific. You will be happy whatever you decide.
Wingin it:
Thank you all for the input. I’m thinking for my purposes the G20 will fit the bill. Now to decide if I want to take a chance on the new gen 5 or just go with the time tested gen 4! Decisions decisions.
