They call it an application fee. Apparently they figured what it cost to make out a license at their office and this is what they came up with. Only in the government could it cost $180 to sell you a credit card type license. LOL
Anyway they want you to go to the dealers and this is the incentive.

You don't even get the old card anymore. I bet it is $180 for the paper license.

No No, that is just what it costs extra. The total is $216 at their office.

Holy crap! I thought it was crazy at $180, but $216 just to keep you from purchasing virtually a receipt from their 'customer service' folks. That's crazy.

So how much is the license after you get the certificate if you just go to any license dealer? Still $180 (or 216 total)? Is this annually? Seems steep to me.
