Title: I think i need a quieter set of fletchings
Post by: DoubleJ on June 23, 2012, 07:56:31 AM: Shooting zeon fusions right now and the seem to just whistle. I like how they spin and love how they control the broadhead but holy crap they're loud. Any ideas? Not real keen on spending $10 a pop to try 10 different fletchings. Does any store you know of maybe carry like a sample pack of fletchings for a couple of bucks?

Post by: DoubleJ on June 24, 2012, 08:32:05 AM: No local archery shops. Closest is 75 miles away. And I haven't tried the Blazers yet. I picked up some more Fusions yesterday. Was going to try the Blazers, had them in my hand for awhile but, I didn't see anyone reply then so, I went with what I know. Didn't want to spend $10 and find out they were worse or wouldn't work with my setup

Post by: DIYARCHERYJUNKIE on June 24, 2012, 12:20:07 PM: I just got a jig. $52.xx shipped. I got 72 blazers for 28.xx shipped and tuned one arrow with a slick trick 4 blade 4 vane max right helical. I shot one time and it was loud. I have always shot three and never tuned due to four blade bh. The thing flew like a dart no wiggle at all. But it was a lot louder than my three 4" vane ever was. I'll get a fresh dozen beman Hunter ics and fix the first vane on the dense side of the shaft and align my broad head as center as I can. The thing is what part o the vane do I align bh to? The front end of the helical or the center or the back? That might make a big difference in noise. :twocents:

Ive fletched my own for years and years, and never had a situation where I needed max helical, or even 4 fletch. My experience is 3 fletch 3in Arizonas will fly any decent 100gr broadhead with only a 2 degree offset.

As for being noisy.....Id say it has more to do with the amount of helical than the actual vane itsself. :twocents:

But knowing I'm over doing the stabilization of my arrows might give me a 60 meter confidence. Im not worried about the noise till I shoot over an animal.

Post by: BULLBLASTER on June 24, 2012, 02:45:07 PM: Lining the blades of the head up with the vanes will make no difference in arrow flight or noise. Most broadheads cause more noise than vanes also. Just make sure the broadhead spins true on the shaft and the bow is in tune and you will be good. The flex fletch vanes are pretty quiet tho. I have killed numerous elk and deer and a bear all with fusions and none of the animal's cared if there was a bit of noise...

Post by: RadSav on June 26, 2012, 05:04:00 AM: I'm a slave to trying everything out there. I've been on a quest for a short high profile vane that is as silent as the 360 Flex-Fletch. So far I do not believe there is one. Testing is always done on a narrow 30 yard indoor range. Usually in the dark or close to it. You can really get a good report that way.

Blazers have been the second loudest I have shot, after the Flex-Fletch "Flash". In 90 degree four fletch they really give out some noise. However, that is probably the setup I have killed the most animals with since switching to the short high profile vanes about 10 years ago. All but one that I can remember just stood there and took it before taking off. Bow noise is a much bigger deal than arrow noise, in my opinion.

A couple years ago I decided to take a small buck the last day of late blacktail season. Steep hillside, no wind and about 45 yards away. I did not use my bubble level and put a Blazer four fletched arrow right in front of his chest into a dirt pile. The little guy did not move a step. He just stretched his neck out and sniffed the fletching. As he reacted to the smell a second arrow struck the dirt about one inch from the first. It was not until he heard the words, "You dumb ass! Look at your bubble." that he ran off. I could have sworn I said that in my mind, but the squaw assures me I said it out loud. There is no hope for some morons I guess :dunno:

If you absolutely need quiet the 360 Flex-Fletch is the ticket. 3 fletch if arrows are shorter than 27.5". 4 fletch if longer gives the most stable results in all conditions. Problem with those is you will not be able to use your EZ Fletcher with very good results. You have to really be careful in how you clean them. Wind drift is a much bigger deal. And if you use the Hairy Hole rest...it turns them to poop quickly.

Blazers, Fusion, AAE Max Hunter, and FF Flash have all spent some time on my hunting arrows. All make noise and all have hit home on animals. I just don't see it as a problem. I would like them to be as quiet as the 360's, but going back to longer vanes would be worse in my opinion as the cross wind drift difference is HUGE!

It slapped one on further forward than the rest. Human error I believe I slapped it shut and that threw the vane forward. I removed it and went slower. My first one is sloppy but I'll perfect them after a few. There are 16 clicks on the nock set. Making a perfect 90. I shoot 28". My draw is 27.5. The arrow seems To shoot perfect. I can't wait to tune 12!

I am glad I bought the Arizona. I started a thread about it and many said get the Blitz or other brands. A couple of people said go with the Arizona and I'm so glad I did. Only bad thing I saw about it was that it would clog with glue. I use LocTite gel (https://hunting-washington.com/smf/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Flukestoystore.com%2Fproduct_images%2Fx%2F624%2Floctite__42445_zoom.jpg&hash=bc56e32418cd15b017a4e9804ce08a07fb8b9eaf) and it works great. I'm able to put it on without it running all over, the Arizona stays spotless, I get a precise amount, and it holds like a clamp. Haven't regretted my Arizona purchase yet

Pretty clean. It dries hard and flakes off with the scraper but it holds really well. Many pass throughs on the target and many fletching impacts and they hold really well. I get it at Wal-Mart in the paint dept. About $3 per tube

Probably safe to remove after a few minutes. I normally give them a day or 2 to cure but it's probably fine to shoot same day, after a few hours.

It's an old chewed up fletch but you get the idea. Put 5 small dots on it (depending on your fletch, more or less, just experiment) and then spread it out. Then clamp it down and done. I love the gel because it doesn't spread and run all over the place and make a big mess like glue does.

Ignore the sounds in the back. The boys were watching Saving Private Ryan and discussing it :)
