Okanogan County limited-entry
deer hunt applications due Aug. 15

OLYMPIA - Hunters have until Aug. 15 at midnight to apply for an opportunity to hunt deer this fall on the 6,000-acre Charles and Mary Eder unit of the Scotch Creek Wildlife Area in northeastern Okanogan County.

Hunters can submit an application for the "limited-entry" deer hunt on the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife’s (WDFW) website at http://wdfw.wa.gov/hunting/permits/scotchcreek/ (http://wdfw.wa.gov/hunting/permits/scotchcreek/) or by contacting the WDFW northcentral region office at (509) 754-4624 or headquarters at (360) 902-2515.

Eighteen applicants will be chosen during a random drawing scheduled Aug. 16. Winners of the drawing will receive access permits to the Charles and Mary Eder Unit of the Scotch Creek Wildlife Area near Oroville.

"This is part of our effort to provide quality hunting opportunities in Washington," said Matt Monda, WDFW Northcentral Regional Wildlife Manager. "This drawing is open to the general public without any additional fees beyond the cost of a hunting license and the standard tags."

Of the 18 access permits available this year, six will be reserved for bowhunters, six for muzzleloaders and six for hunters using modern firearms.

Hunters are allowed to take only one deer, as authorized by their general hunting license.

Deer-hunting seasons for the area are Sept. 1-28 for bow hunters, Sept. 29-Oct. 7 for muzzleloaders, and Oct. 13-21 for hunters using modern firearms.

The results of the drawing will be available on WDFW’s website the last week of August. Hunters who are drawn will receive an access permit and a boundary map in the mail.

It's rolling hills and sage brush. It's all walk in and butts up against the US and Canadian line. I bet there are some big boys there. I've been overthere to take a look. It looks real good if you can walk alot !!

I've hunted it.
Nothing special. If your after whitetail, it is what you are looking for. saw 1 mule deer and 100 whitetail!
The landowner drives his hummer around screwing up the hunt for anyone in there. But it was fun.

I hunted it last year with a muzzy permit.  Wasn't to impressed, lots of does and a few small bucks, but we did'nt find anything with any size.  Pretty dry with the exception of the creek on the north side which is where most of the deer were.  Only saw one other hunter during the BP hunt. A member who hunted it before during the archery hunt said he saw some good bucks near the lower orchards, but the orchards were pretty well fenced off last year and nothing seemed to be moving in and out.  Some great grouse shooting in the surrounding areas though.

I had the rifle tag in 07' like said in earlier posts no big bucks, saw a couple small ones.  They say it's for a quality hunt, but the reason they bought it was for winter grounds and bird habitat.  Very open ground also.

Yep, Jr. drives a black flatbed Hummer. There used to be more mulies in that area before they started developing above it and down by the lake below at what used to be undeveloped Dairy Point. A guy up there took me up on the property once a long time ago, and we saw twenty or so nice mulie bucks. You won't see that very often any more.

PJB, good luck getting a big buck if you get drawn. I've hunted land that borders that land and have not seen a truly big buck (whitetail or mule), in the last five years. Lots of small two and three points and tons of does.

Why would that be? If its limited access you would think they can get bigger but...

I/m kinda trophy hunter so might be a waste of time
