Hey, im looking at getting my girlfriend a bow under 50lbs preferably around 40lbs for deer. She cant pull back my old Parker bow setup at 50lbs. So I was wondering what would be a good bow for her. Thanks!

My default answer for anyone looking for a first time bow due to it's customizability. Is that even a word? The real answer would be to take her to a good bow shop and let her shoot and choose

another great one is the mission craze. it's adjustable in draw weight from 30 - 70 lbs. and draw length 19 - 29 inches

Yeah, I was looking at the Diamonds today. I was pretty convinced that they would be a good starter bow for her. Thanks for the quick reply!

I got the Razors Edge for my son. He's 10 and right now he has it set at 21" and 27lbs. It will go up as he grows. If she can go shoot a few and choose her favorite, that's the way to go. If you're buying it blind, first, don't. Second, if you do, the Razors Edge is the way to go because it is guaranteed to fit.

Bought one for my wife in camo (not pink - her choice) for Christmas last year as she said she wanted to learn to shoot on her own bow - surprised the heck out of me. Got it through Hunter's Friend online along with the "Ready To Hunt" package; some of the local shops may carry them as well.

my wife has the razor edge and shoots it really will great first bow. My buddy's kid has the same bow and has shot 2 deer with it. great first bow!

The old lady shoots a Passion all decked out with pink for breast cancer awareness! Also has flowers on it. Pretty expensive but she shoots it very well! Its her second bow and she is well seasoned with archery hunting now! It took some time though.

Have you shot a passion? My god does that thing have a lot of hand shock!! Hard to beat a razors edge for a good starter bow. She will increase her draw weight faster than you think. My wife is tiny. Sub 5' and 105lbs. I had to put 60lb limbs on her Martin leopard. Came with 50 lb that were backed all the way out when she started. I'd start with the edge and let her shoot until she works up her poundage and then if she decides she wants a higher end bow. She will have a lot better idea of what she wants.

Razors Edge. My GF shot a cow with hers last year. It put the broadhead against the off side hide from 30 yds at 44 pounds of draw. She loves it.

Razor edge is hard to beat, my wife just moved on to a Mathews Jewel (sweet bow, but $$$). Razor shot well, was light weight, quiet, and very little vibration.
Only issues we had with the razor was fletching clearance on the riser, and cables, you have to pay alot of attention to the orientation of the vanes. Switched out sight, and rest right away, I really dislike the hostage rest. Watch string stretch, and cam timing.
Overall the adjustability is great for someone starting out, allowing alot of adjustment for draw weight and length. Awesome kids bow.
I would definitely look at the Mission Craze as well.

bought my 13yr old daughter a Bear apprentice....Highly adjustable and wont break the bank to start....saw another lady the other day at the range with the same bow in pink camo :o

I have the Razor edge and love it. And hey now there is nothing wrong with pink camo! Next upgrade to mine will be a custom pink & black string, but I already changed out sights, rest, and wrist sling so far and I am sure there will be more. The price was right and I can't justify spending a massive amount of money on a bow because of the brand name (not saying they are good or bad). For me it was a good purchase due to the price, the adjustable and how it fits me.

I just posted on this in the womens board as well, but just in case... I have loved my Hoyt Selena. They don't make it anymore, but Hoyt makes a good bow. I will be selling mine after hunting season to upgrade to the Hoyt Carbon Element :drool:

I love my Mathews but I think the Mission bow would be great draw length is easy to change, and the weight can easly be moved up. I shot my sons and it was quiet and smooth, Lucky shot carries these as well, they helped set my sons up for him
