Who can answer this question. While driving through town (Raymond) I saw a pickup with about fifty crawdad traps in the back of the truck. Can you get a permit to put that many traps out in the creeks. Saw this truck up mill crk later that afternoon, must have been putting the traps out.
Don't know about WA but my brother's ex and her sister had a comercial permit to fish Young's Bay in OR. They were sold and shipped to NYC I believe. They would run 50 or so pots.

Don't know the answer, but some one else posted this link. Check it out he is, was a commercial crawdad fisherman. Looks like the type of person you could email and ask the question. He is from Bellingham.

Can you describe the truck? I was down there fishing for them but we only had six traps :dunno: heard one guy was doing it commercially in Grays harbor from raymond. But also know of another guy who had a mess of crawdads on the 4th. lol...didnt know it was getting so popular down there.

damn fckford07, ther is one in that pic about middle to right that has his feelers against the cooler that looks like a lobster.... those are some studs thats for sure, the only place i havever caught them that big was in sequim, did you catch those on the westside?
Thanks Jackmaster. Those are eastside crawdads, and probably the biggest I've ever found. It's always nice when they are big enough to eat the claw meat :tup:

I've found that if you let the traps set out overnight you'll have more success. Mud bugs are more active at night.

It depends on the body of water. The state has a list of said waters that can be commercially harvested for crawdads and the # of pots allowed on those waters 0 to 400 in some waters but the average seems to be 100 to 200 pots on large lakes and more on the Columbia. I checked into doing this last year it actually takes big $$$$ in licences and bonds to be able harvest and sell your catch I think it was about $15,000 or so to get it started as a going concern. Google Terry Bullard he is the crawfish king in the NW he pioneered it in the early 80's and actually made millions at it, he is now retired and makes the best traps around from his home I believe in the kettle Fall area. :brew:

Most of the craws I've eaten down south we would rip the tails off and suck out the inards. After a whole pile of tails were all that was left we would peel those and eat them with garlic butter. All the craws up here that I have eaten have been a little muddy tasting for sucking the inards. So we just eat the tails and claws. Sometimes add the rest to chowder if I'm low on razor clam juice.

Just make a rectangular box out of 1X2s, tack on some hardware cloth , make a funnel to fit in each end, add rope, buoy, and weight, voila, crayfish trap. Oh yeah, dont forget to make some way to open it for baiting and craw removal.... :chuckle:

I wish I could. A buddy of mine owns a cajun crawfish restraunt in portland. It's all his ingredients sorry. BTW the name of the restraunt is My Brothers crawfish.
