I know down low the berries are ripening and the bears are feeding, but what about the 3to 4000' level?
-
Ive been seeing the majority of the quality bears around 2700-3500 ft if that helps
-
ill be hunting right around 4500 ft opening day and ive seen a couple diffrent bears up there in the last couple weeks
-
I dont worry to much about elevation. I just hunt the spots that have produced bears over the years.
-
Tuesday i saw a really nice boar at 4500 feet

how do you guys know if its a boar or sow? Ive shot a few bears but never really knew if it was a boar or sow before i shot. Its always there's a bear bang dead bear. Ive never been able to tell the difference. Maybe i just need to watch more closely.

If it stands to pee its a boar, and if it squats its a sow.... :chuckle:

:yeah: Year after year they are back!!

the only reason i confident he was a boar was because he was obviously a mature bear and his attributes pointed toward boar, he had a very large round head/face, ears appeared almost non-existent, he was very blocky and his belly was near the ground. i got to watch him feeding for about 5 minutes at 50 yards so i got a pretty good look at him. sows tend to be a little more streamlined although thats not the rule... i have a hard time distinguishing sex of younger bears. i guess the more bears you observe the easier it becomes :dunno: ive had pretty good luck picking out boars from sows while hunting.

Im with D on this one.

If you find a good food source and some bear sign odds are there's more than 1 in the area. I wouldn't put to much thought into elevation.
-
:yeah: That's what I have. :chuckle: :chuckle:

what ever elevation the food source is..

So i know the blackberries are out soon, but some people are seeing them up high. I guess its a toss up. Havnt killed a bear yet so ill try both i guess.

Sled i think you know a few of the spots that i hunt already. Those ate the spots I'd start with.

yeah i know some, and i know you have done good, but i just dont like hunting in someones regular area. Good areas are hard to find.

Ill just shoot both my bears in the same week and just play guide for the rest of the month. I was already in on one members first bear this year i hope to make it at least one more..
-
Ive got the first three days of the season off this year if i want them, im just trying to figure out what to do.
Would like to give it a try with ya.

This will be my first season after bear. But the scouting I have done so far showed bear from 4700 feet down to about 3000. However, no berries were ready in the area I was in and it was still a main course of fawn and grass. Found one rockstar spot with about 8 piles of poo in about 200 yds. Best of luck to everyone.
