mine are all just due to a very high cat population in my area. dont know if id call that luck tho....

I was at a presentation where a WDFW bio said that a surprisingly large portion of Cougar diets in Western WA consists of Beavers. He said they will park on top of the lodge and pick off the whole family, leaving little except the front teeth behind. Wonder if Bobs do the same????

Post by: Turner89 on November 27, 2013, 02:59:34 PM: I don't know about bobcats, but I was told the same thing about cougars. I was told that they specialize in certain prey. They will take any opportunity that comes up, but master hunting a certain species.
I thought that when leg hold trapping was made illegal, that the beaver population in my area would sky rocket. That has'nt been the case, at least not noticeably. I think that's because the cougar population has increased, because of the lack of trapping, and hound hunting.
I bet the bobcat is after young beaver, or muskrat. I've heard the that beaver can get pretty onery. They also get as big or bigger than most bobcat. :dunno:

I assume it's the same one anyway, collared, big and within 4-5 miles of where I got the pic last Fall. Funny part of this pic is 4 hours earlier my wife and I were hanging a tree stand about 50 yards from this camera. The wife wasn't pleased when she saw the pic and realized he was clearly nearby while we were there. According to the biologist that collared this guy he weighed in at 180lbs in Feb 2011 and preys on 65% elk and 30% deer. I'd love to get a shot at this guy...

Every time that I look at this thread I am very impressed with your picture. It makes a person feel as if they are right there in the moment. That cat sure seems to be sizing you up right there. It looks like a picture that could happen to anyone that is out walking along and bang, a predator is looking very closely at you and number of different scenarios could happen. I really am glad that you posted it.

No tag and at least with the pic I could brag about her. I spotted her at about 50 yrds asnd had time to get the camera ready but I never figured she'd get that close but she just kep coming
