Title: Bear and fish question
Post by: MountainWalk on August 14, 2008, 12:05:06 PM
So I have this place that Ive scouted a few times and have never hunted. Ive seen critters down there also. Basically the spot is a long green grassy corridor with little creeks joining a bigger creek that runs throught this wide belt of grass, and dumps into the bay. The place just screams "vancouver island".  So any how, Im curious if fish will run into it, and are there any summer runs of fish. Naturally, bears like to camp out on fish runs. The place is pretty much undeveloped shoreline.

All you lifelong WA state fisherman can't tell me what fish run in the summertime? Or when?

Nothing around here until at least end of sept. now, I would focus on  those big blackberries that are getting ripe. Find a big patch of those and look out.

The place is bordered by timber and blackberries.
Ive seen bear there before just grubbing on the nice greeen grass. No stumps or old forest debris. Thanks for the info though..

Most of the large creeks on the coast or off of a large river get some type of run, but you don't really give us too much to work with.  I would contact your local biologist, or if it is on private land that is logged, the timber company.  If they have done any logging they needed to do an environmental impact survey and that would include a list of fish that use that creek.

I have fished most of the creeks that come off the Columbia and the vast majority only had a winter run that peaked in January with early arrivals in November, ramping up in December, and tailing off in February.  However, I can't speak for where you are at.
