Well my Burris signature select binos bit the dust! I sent them in for warranty repairs but they cannot get them apart due to too much abuse on my part. So they are willing to give me 35% off any Steiner binos. I haven't seen or used Steiner binos at all to see how they are. Anyone like/dislike them? I may also be willing to order the steiners and sell them brand new if anyone wants a deal on steiners.

Part of me is thinking that if I am buying new binos that I should buy high end as I won't be buying again... need to look at my funds. May look at leica geovid or ultravid.

trophy hunt and myself both have the 10x42 safaris and they kick butt, they are light pretty compact and they dont hurt the eyes and when you put your binos down your still lookn at the critter :twocents:

Now I am thinking of getting night hunter 10x 56. I am just so used to 12x and I want to keep 12x but Steiner doesn't have any.

Is Steiner all that they can offer at the 35% discount?
The higher end Steiner lines are very nice, but they don't compare to the big 3. But at 35% off, you might give them a good hard look.
I would be visiting Cabelas and Wholesale sports to see what they have for steiner stock to get a look for yourself.

I have steiner's and love them. 8x30 military marines. Tougher then heck. I will be getting a 10x pair of steiner's when I finally wear these out. Like the other guy said, if you have the money you can get more performance out of some of the higher priced brands. But for the price, steiners are solid products.

I am going to cabelas this weekend and will look at the steiners. In reality the Steiner night hunters are probably better binos than my Burris were. Have the money for big 3 but don't really want to spend it... trying.to buy a new house.

I just ordered the Steiner night hunter 10x 56 binos. All of the reviews I read have been great. Now just waiting until they get here.

If you can get that discount on Steiner products, I'd suggest the Steiner Peregrine XP. They are around $1,500 MSRP. I had a pair of the 8x44 for a couple of months to do a review on and they are fasntastic binoculars. They are better built than ANY OTHER BINOCULAR I have ever seen...that includes Swarovski, Zeiss, Leica. They literally feel like you could use them as a weapon in a barfight. They are the best in hand feeling binocular I klnow about. The image is on par with anything else. The newer roof prism Steiner Nighthunter XP's are just an ever so slight tick optically below the Peregrine XP and are about $500 less than the Peregrine. Steiner makes some less than stellar stuff so be careful and don't just get a "Steiner". That tells nobody anything.

The Peregrine weren't on the price list I recieved. I told them I want the best binos available from Steiner and he said they were the night hunters. Thanks for the input. I am excited to get them and try them out. The Burris tech said they are at least a step up from my Burris signature selects.

-I have the 8x30 military marines and those are great!! I have the 10x42 predator C5's and those are the Awesome aswell!! If you get the C5's make sure to get the little clips to attach a strap becouse they dont come with them! Im Steiner all the way for Binos! There tuff as nails!! Like steve c said, there very comfortable in hand and on the eyes!

I'd be more specific about the Peregrine thing. Their rep is fulla crap...the Nighthunter is not their best glass. Unless he has a thing about hunters needing lowlight stuff. He may have it in his head the Peregrine is a birders binocular too. But the thing here is there is no difference in a hunter's glass and a birder's glass. A good binocular works for either...any differences are in the mind of the user. There is a lot of marketing stuff aimed at making hunters and birders think they need different stuff.

When the steiners get here I will most likely be selling them for a chunk under their retail price. The vortex are more compact and.lightweight. nothing like buying 2 sets of $1000 binos in 3 days... :bdid:

I have had the predator 8x42 for about 10 years and love them!

Have the 10x42 predators for a few years now. Just compared the vortex razor HD the other day. Do compare in all light condition before you decide. My eyes still like the preators better.

I have the Razor HD. You will not have a real easy choice. The Razor id darned good glass. Both should beat the Burris pretty handily. Good luck.

I compared at cabelas between the razor and the nighthunter and felt the razor was better for me. Less eyestrain and brighter image. Clarity was comparable tho I believe. The side light blockers are nice on the night hunters. The razors are also lighter and more compact for same power and lens size. I will do a good comparison when the steiners are delivered. They made some changes to the razor HD for 2012 and I really like them. They were right with leica trinovids as far as I could tell. But lighter and more compact.... less $ too.

I like the winged style eye cup myself. I have these on all of my main use binoculars, including the Razor HD (mine happens to be the otiginal Razor HD with the open bridge)

I have a pair of the Peregrine XP. I can verify that they glass is comparable to the top end glass out there. Swaro, Leica, etc. It is really that good.
However, I think the reason that the Burris guy offered you the Night Hunters, is because it looks like the Peregrine's are not offered anymore. I just checked their web page, and I do not see them!
Here is a brochure for all those who are interested. I will be keeping mine until I find an exceptable pair of Leica/Swaro/Zeiss/Steiner that offers a built in range finder WITH ballistic angle compensation. :twocents:

I received the steiners in the mail yesterday and did a prettty thorough comparison between them and the vortex that I bought. All in all they were pretty even j think. The vortex had slightly better color in the bright sun and were a bit brighter in bright sun. Steiners had less sunglare when looking west in late afternoon but vortexwere still a bit brighter. In low light they were abouteven as far as brightness until very late. In extra low light around 915 last night the steiners were a bit brighter not day andnight difference but noticeable. Both focus very well and seem to be quality glass. In the end I will be keeping the vortex razor due to size and weight mostly and daytime brightness and color. The steiners are 10x56 and vortex are 10x42. The 10x42 steiners didn't compare to vortex brightness in daylight or lower light when I loomed at them. Thanks for reading.

i had a set of steiners and they lasted about 4 years just like any 150 to 300 dollar pair of glasses if you hunt and scout all the time the cheaper glasses just dont last period finally after buying low end glasses for 15 years straight so 2 make a long story short i bit the bullet and droped 1500 on a pair of swavzs that was 9 years ago they still look like the day i baught them plus a life waranty its lots of money but if you love to hunt do the math and in the long run you save money not to mention how clear they are lieca and some zeiss are good as well good luck with ur choice

Ive owned a set of Steiner Predators for the past 8 years and couldn't be happier with them. The only reason I would upgrade is due to size and weight. The optics themselves are great.

the steiner nighthunter are far from 150-300 dolalr glass. considering the ones i had retail for 1100. not saying that they are on par with swaro or zeiss. but they are far above 300 dollar binos. if i had the extra to spend i would have gone straight to swaro, but i had to work inside my budget of 1000-1100 and i felt the vortex were the best for me in that budget with the steiners a close second.

I too love my Steiners. I use mine wuite frequently out here in Germany because 95% of the Schwarzwild (Wild Hog) hunting is done here at night. My Steiner 7 x 50 Bino's pick up just as much light as my Meopta Meostar R1 which is one of the top five scopes in my opinion.
