Title: Pasayten Wilderness for the High Hunt
Post by: cvandervort on July 20, 2012, 06:42:25 AM
Hey everyone,

A buddy of mine recommended the Pasayten (specifically SW of Black Lake) for the High Hunt. I was wondering if any of you have been out there? Apparently the burn left little cover, but I haven't seen it for myself...I was looking to head out and scout in a couple of weeks, just wanted to see what I was getting into.

Thanks

Give it a try.  What year did it burn?

They say most of the deer that winter in the methow summer up there go for it, there are definitely bucks in that country.

Thanks for the replies guys/gals. The burn was in 2003. Man, I tell ya, sharing info with honest folks while trying to dance around freeloaders is a challenge! Gotta love PMs. Holler at me if you want to chat more.

That Harts Pass is sure a skinny looking little path is that thing big truck friendly?? Wouldn't want to punt a Subaru off the edge.....not on accident at least :chuckle:

That's good to know! From what I've seen on video and photo's it looks like the turnaround at the top could be interesting in a full sized rig if the parking lot is full. Also looks like there's no where to turn around once you start up?! Looks pretty dang wide most of the way, but when you drive an F-350 crew cab with an 8' bed roads can get skinny quick and I wouldn't want to get half way up there and become a pain in people's behinds is all...

Thanks for the heads up!

We went up there a couple of times in my buddy's lifted Excursion with no problems. Outfitters take stock trucks full of horses and mules up there all the time.

That is true!! I will have to check that out one of these days, looks amazing up there! The video's available make it look worse than it is I guess?

Excellent to know, again thanks for the heads up!

If your f350 is newer than my 97f250 extended cab, you will have no problem finding a few spots to turn around.  Just make sure your vehicle is in good working condition.  It costs about 800 bucks to get a tow up there.  Don't ask how I know.:-\

There is a nice CG just to the south of the ranger station at Hart's pass right by a creek. You will only see deer in the very early morning or late evening or bedded with spotting scope. If you can't find them go into the creek bottoms. Also quite a few grouse for the pot.

thats funny ...subaru...Back in the 90s we used to hunt the heck out of this area in early bow season and we used a subaru to hunt in it ....and yes we had many close calls but the good thing was if we got stuck we would just pick it up and move it

Too funny  I made that remark because if you video search Hart's Pass, WA one of the videos shows the parking area at the top and half the lot is Subaru's!! LOL

Good heads up though....note to self, don't judge the occupants by the car :hello:

I've hiked up there years ago. You'll be safe with the treehuggers if you offer to them : Starbucks in an LL Bean Stainless mug, Fly fishing tips, comments of their Birkenstock, teach them about the does and don't of personal hygiene in the woods, organic paper sacks for their lunch, littering,
plasticine porters with looking glass eyes, dream catchers, crystals hanging off of their rearview mirrors, the 60's, 70's, 80's, Outrageous Taco in the U district (70's), their million dollar cabins in Mazama, Microsoft, Obama, pot, rainbow stickers on their cars, 426, love beads and bongo drums, peace, love, dope, chocolate flavored zigzag rolling papers, $10 lids, the U District riots in the late 60's, teargas, and Jimmy Hendricks. I guess you'll have fun !!!  :chuckle

:chuckle: I bought a truck off the City of Yakima two weeks ago...needless to say I followed the directions to the lot were I was supposed to meet the seller and his comment was "I should have asked what you were driving, however, as I approached the lot I thought to myself 'Bellingham...must be the subaru!'...to which I exclaimed "yeah it's pretty easy to pick out the coasties around here   Cut me some slack though it's the wife's car!!

My nieghbor has pickups with horse trailers etc. All of a sudden he's driving a friggin' Sabaru.  :chuckle: He never gets stuck in the snow, gets good gas mileage. But, I really teased him when I saw it.....
