UN Arms Trade Treaty – Contact Your Rep’s!

Everyone should continue to write their representatives in opposition to the Arms Trade Treaty (ATT).  The ATT is a serious threat to our freedoms.

NRA-ILA: “Disinformation Continues as U.N. Arms Treaty Takes Shape”

http://www.nraila.org/news-issues/articles/2012/7/disinformation-continues-as-un-arms-treaty-takes-shape.aspx

There's no time to waste.  Contact your Representatives NOW - TODAY to urge them to strongly oppose the signing of the UN Arms Trade Treaty.

Watch the Dick Morris video.

“Hillary’s End Run On Gun Control – Dick Morris TV: Lunch Alert!”

http://www.dickmorris.com/hillarys-end-run-on-gun-control-dick-morris-tv-lunch-alert/?utm_source=dmreports&utm_medium=dmreports&utm_campaign=dmreports

Listen to the video.  Sign the petition; this will open a window that will send an email to your Senators and Congressmen.  Sending the email takes about one-minute.  The emails firmly states you do NOT want Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and President Barack Obama to sign the Arms Trade Treaty on July 27th in New York City.

Thanks.

This is an interesting added note regarding the Vienna Convention on the Law of Treaties:

U.S. Department of State website.
http://www.state.gov/s/l/treaty/faqs/70139.htm (http://www.state.gov/s/l/treaty/faqs/70139.htm)

"Is the United States a party to the Vienna Convention on the Law of Treaties?

No. The United States signed the treaty on April 24, 1970. The U.S. Senate has not given its advice and consent to the treaty. The United States considers many of the provisions of the Vienna Convention on the Law of Treaties to constitute customary international law on the law of treaties."

We do need to keep the record straight.

On July 27th, Barack Hussein Obama Intends To Sign A United Nations Treaty That Will "Legislate Gun Control In The United States" Through The Backdoor Via The United Nations "And Effectively Repeal Our Second Amendment."

UN Flag     No, your eyes are not playing tricks on you. Those are the words of Dick Morris, the threat to your liberties is real and imminent, and Morris is not alone. Chris Cox, the executive director of the NRA's Institute for Legislative Action (NRA-ILA), is sounding the alarm as well:

"Representatives from many of the world’s socialist, tyrannical and dictatorial regimes [are gathering] at the United Nations headquarters in New York for a month-long meeting, in which they’ll put the finishing touches on an international Arms Trade Treaty that could seriously restrict your freedom to own, purchase and carry a firearm."

It's happening right now... at this very moment. The member states and thugocracies of the United Nations have been meeting, behind closed doors with Hillary Clinton, since July 2nd to hammer out the final details on their so-called Arms Trade Treaty (ATT) and Barack Obama, HAS VOWED to sign it on July 27th.

And if you're not worried, you should be. Cox goes on to say: "You might think that something so obviously menacing to one of our enumerated fundamental rights would receive a strong rebuke from our top government leaders. BUT YOU'D BE WRONG. This is President Barack Obama’s vision for America, and we’re expected to just go along with it."

We need our elected officials on record NOW. And it's not enough to call on them to oppose the ATT, AFTER Barack Obama signs it. We must DEMAND that they announce their intentions to vote AGAINST ratification of this treasonous treaty NOW... BEFORE Barack Obama signs it on July 27.

Make no mistake, if you do not make your voice heard now, your constitutional and God-given right to keep and bear arms may forever be regulated and controlled by thugocracies within the United Nations that have no intention of following the dictates of the very treaty they will impose upon you.

Use the button or the hyperlink below to send your urgent Blast Faxes to each and every one of the Republican Members of the United States Senate.

If button above does not work, please use this hyperlink.

And Where Are Our Republican Leaders?

At least we knew where President George W. Bush stood on the ATT.  As a matter of policy, he not only opposed the ATT but also proclaimed that the United States would have no involvement with the planning or implementation of the ATT. He wanted no part of this treasonous treaty.

As Bloomberg news reported, under the Bush Administration, the United States "was the only nation to oppose the 2006 resolution to create an international treaty on the sale of small arms and light weapons, and subsequent measures to continue the talks."

But the times, they are a changing. Instead of following President Bush's example and saying, from the get-go , that there is no way in the nether regions of hell that this voluntary surrender of our constitutional rights will ever see the light of day; Senate Republicans are taking more of a 'let's-wait-and-see-what-the-UN-comes-up-with' approach.

And while they procrastinate, Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama are legitimizing and actively negotiating something that is illegitimate... something that the United States should never be negotiating in the first place.

Make no mistake, our elected officials like to talk tough. As a matter of fact, a number of Senators penned a strongly worded letter on ATT to Barack Obama last year, and they even went so far as to say that they would "oppose ratification of an Arms Trade Treaty presented to the Senate that in any way restricts the rights of law-abiding citizens to manufacture, assemble, possess, transfer or purchase firearms, ammunition and related items."

      But...

Don't be lulled into complacency by the tough-sounding rhetoric. Words are cheap and we must demand action because anyone who knows how the UN operates, knows that its S.O.P. is deception. The ATT WILL, without a doubt, contain written promises and grandiose assurances... and the UN will assure  far too many Senate Republicans that the ATT will in no way restrict your right to legally own a firearm.

Of course, those assurances will be lies.  Anyone who knows how the UN operates, also knows that those promises and assurances won't be worth the paper on which they are printed. Once the ATT is signed and ratified our own government, under the supervision of the thugocracies of the United Nations, will start to "regulate" and, soon thereafter, start to "confiscate."

Don't take our word for it. Former UN ambassador John Bolton, says that the UN “is trying to act as though this is really just a treaty about international arms trade between nation states, but there is no doubt that the real agenda here is domestic firearms control.”

My letter to Jaime Herrera Beutler:

"Hi Jaime,

I hope this communication finds you well.

I wanted to get confirmation from you on your position with regards to our country's proposed participation in the UN Small Arms treaty. Members of the Organization Washington for Wildlife and the online forum www.hunting-washington.com (http://www.hunting-washington.com) are polling our individual reps to get their positions (please see the link to the thread here: http://hunting-washington.com/smf/index.php?topic=101641.msg1322462#new (http://hunting-washington.com/smf/index.php?topic=101641.msg1322462#new)).

I personally feel it's imperative that if we, as a sovereign nation, must sign onto this very broad-reaching treaty, that language must be written into it which assures that individual US Citizens retain their rights under the 2nd Amendment without having to answer to the UN to do so. I feel that our government needs to make very clear to the UN that we will not be supplying them with any information that regards individual firearm ownership, permits and concealed carry authorizations, dealerships, Federal firearms licenses, or anything else that would provide the UN with privileged, personal information regarding firearms ownership and use.

I look forward to hearing your specific and precise position on this pending treaty and how you think the US should participate, if at all.

Thanks so much. I always look forward to hearing from you.

The links didn't show up in your post, can you fix that, particularly the Blast a FAX link?  We ALL need to communicate to our Representatives.  The FAX sounds like a fast method if we can tap into the resource.

July 27th is coming fast, so a strong and clear message needs to be sent NOW!

Otherwise there is a link provided through the Dick Morris video link.

Here is another one to help you contact your Representatives (Senators and Congressmen):

Of course, I'm sure the U.S. government is exempt from any requirement to reign in its global arms trade, but, if not, that is a mere legal technicality. When has international law, or any law for that matter, ever stopped our gov't from supporting and engaging in serial murder? Our gov't will continue to sell arms to the narco state of Mexico as well as various other hot spots for mass murder around the globe like Sri Lanka, for instance. Keep the guns flowing Obama, just make sure you keep them out of the hands of those pesky American citizens.

Oh, and for those of you who don't know, Obama's White House has been attempting to loosen the regulations on U.S. international weapon sales. Read this: http://www.studentnewsdaily.com/daily-news-article/white-house-efforts-to-relax-gun-exports-face-resistance/ (http://www.studentnewsdaily.com/daily-news-article/white-house-efforts-to-relax-gun-exports-face-resistance/) A few excerpts are below...

White House Efforts to Relax Gun Exports Face Resistance
Adam Entous and Evan Perez, WSJ.com, May 1, 2012

U.S. homeland-security and law-enforcement agencies have objected to Obama administration proposals to relax export restrictions on high-powered firearms, threatening a centerpiece of the president’s trade…agenda.

The agencies, in internal memos viewed by The Wall Street Journal, warn the changes could help arm drug cartels and terrorists and make it harder for the U.S. to crack down on gun-trafficking.

...

Under the proposed rules, close-assault weapons, sniper rifles, combat shotguns and ammunition would be moved from the “strict controls” of the Munitions List to a “lesser controlled” Commerce list, according to a Homeland Security memo.

...

Homeland Security warned in its memo that many eligible countries in Europe have “considerable government corruption, significant underground economies and no border controls for exports allowing these countries to serve as transshipment points for diversion of small arms and light weapons.” No [specific] country was named.

Mitt Romney, who was in Bellevue earlier this year at the Meydenbauer Center, took a far different approach in remarks quoted by the Washington Post.

“I don’t happen to believe that America needs new gun laws,” Romney said in an interview with NBC. “A lot of what this young man did was clearly against the law, but the fact that it was against the law did not prevent it from happening.”

Here's an alert email that was sent to SCI members:

http://www.scifirstforhunters.org/advocacy/contactcongressman

Dear SCI members,

Over the last four weeks the United Nations has been engaged in final negotiations on the terms of an Arms Trade Treaty (ATT). This treaty has the purported goal of reducing the illicit trade in arms. However the ATT is massive in scope, possibly covering every conventional weapon, from battleships and missiles to your common deer hunting rifle and ammunition.

The ATT has been in the works for more than a decade, and SCI has continually and consistently monitored its progress to protect hunters from the threats that it could pose. SCI has continually lobbied to exclude hunting firearms and ammunition entirely from the scope of the treaty.

Negotiations have been moving slowly during the months of June and July, however on July 24, 2012 a draft version of the treaty was released and it contains numerous provisions that are extremely dangerous to hunters. Some of the worst provisions of the draft are listed below.

•   The current draft ignores the position of millions of sport shooters worldwide and includes all sporting arms, hunting rifles, and ammunition, instead of excluding this legal trade from the scope of the ATT. Sadly, the current United States administration has stated their support for the inclusion of sporting arms in the scope of the treaty.

•   The current draft would require all signatory nations to establish a “national control system” to control the export of firearms and ammunition. This national control system could easily be interpreted as a national gun registration system by an anti-hunting administration.

•   The draft fails to exclude the temporary import or export of firearms from its scope. This could add burdensome reporting requirements for even the temporary export of a firearm for a hunting trip.

•   Article 11 of the draft treaty requires states to keep ten years of records for all arms exported. A country must keep records of “quantity, value, model/type, authorized arms transfers, arms actually transferred, details of exporting State(s), recipient State(s), and end users.” This requirement also applies to arms that merely transit or transship through a country. This huge bureaucratic undertaking could devastate traveling hunters as it is much more likely that air carriers will stop shipping firearms than comply with this unduly burdensome requirements.

•   Article 13 would establish a new U.N. bureaucracy that would oversee national implementation of the treaty. This Orwellian named “Implementation Support Unit” would facilitate and oversee the implementation of the treaty.

•   Finally, the draft treaty also contains an insidious clause in Article 23 that would essentially apply the treaty to countries whether or not they even sign the treaty. This clause requires that “States Parties shall apply Articles 3-5 to all transfers of conventional arms within the scope of this Treaty to those not party to this Treaty.” This unacceptable position undermines state sovereignty and must be opposed.

The bitter irony of all this is that the United States already has the most comprehensive set of export controls in the world. Other nations could simply emulate these protocols and address any problem, real or perceived.

We need every SCI member and hunter to contact their senators and the President and urge them to oppose this dangerous treaty. Please click here to contact your legislators now.

Internet chatter is suggesting that a handful of nations, lead by the announcement of the US, are asking for more time to review the proposed treaty. Let us pray that this administration is not in power at that time.

Take note of the Senators who opposed the UN Arm Trade Treaty; these Senators are our friends.  Also note that there are NO Senators from Washington that signed.

"The letter was signed by U.S. Senators Lamar Alexander (R-TN), Kelly Ayotte (R-NH), Max Baucus (D-MT), John Barrasso (R-WY), Mark Begich (D-AK), Roy Blunt (R-MO), John Boozman (R-AR), Richard Burr (R-NC), Bob Casey (D-PA), Dan Coats (R-IN), Tom Coburn (R-OK), Thad Cochran (R-MS), Susan Collins (R-ME), Bob Corker (R-TN), John Cornyn (R-TX), Saxby Chambliss (R-GA), Mike Crapo (R-ID), Jim DeMint (R-SC), Mike Enzi (R-WY), Lindsey Graham (R-SC), Chuck Grassley (R-IA), Orrin Hatch (R-UT), Dean Heller (R-NV), John Hoeven (R-ND), Kay Bailey Hutchison (R-TX), James Inhofe (R-OK), Johnny Isakson (R-GA), Mike Johanns (R-NE), Ron Johnson (R-WI), Jon Kyl (R-AZ), Mike Lee (R-UT), Joe Manchin (D-WV), Mitch McConnell (R-KY), Jerry Moran (R-KS), Lisa Murkowski (R-AK), Ben Nelson (D-NE), Rand Paul (R-KY), Rob Portman (R-OH), Mark Pryor (D-AR), Jim Risch (R-ID), Pat Roberts (R-KS), Marco Rubio (R-FL), Jeff Sessions (R-AL), Richard Shelby (R-AL), Olympia Snowe (R-ME), Jon Tester (D-MT), John Thune (R-SD), Pat Toomey (R-PA), David Vitter (R-LA), Jim Webb (D-VA), and Roger Wicker (R-MS)."

I tried to upload a copy of the actual letter as a PDF, but it didn't work.  There is a link to the PDF version of the letter at the bottom of the article.

You might consider sending Senator Moran a thank you for organizing the group of Senators to oppose the UN ATT.  He did a great service for everyone in this country.  It only takes a minute.
