Title: I have never been so prepared for archery season.
Post by: MIKEXRAY on August 15, 2008, 02:56:24 PM
I have never had my sh!t together like I do now, I wish I was 23 instead of 43 yo. I am shooting my new Mathews out to 60 yards like a madman. Shot my G5's today and they fly great out to 60 yards ( same impact as field points). Calling is sounding better & purchased my Montana elk decoy. Have my honey hole all lined up, and drew my area for any bull. After taking my 4x3 mulie last year my confidence has never been higher. Purchased extra camo, have the whole two weeks off for whole Sept elk/deer season. Really feel like this is my year, my planets are lining up. Going to spend every minute possible up on my ridge. Now just need to execute. Wish me luck (never hurts) and good luck to everyone out there bow hunting. Mike (obviously excited)

Don't forget to take your target to camp so you can shoot a couple shots each day.  You don't want to waste all that preparation by having bad form when the shot finally comes.  Good luck this season!

Dad once told me "You can never be too prepared" I am sure you are more prepared than if you were 23!

Good luck this season!  This will be my first bow season and hopefully my first deer period.  I feel I'm well prepared.  I'm shooting well, got my spot picked out, and going to put my blind up next weekend.  The next couple weeks are going to be murder!

I am glad that I am not the only one losing sleep.  I cannot wait for September 1st.  I found a 32" mule deer on our place that has my name all over it.  Pray for sweltering heat on Sept 1st - if he lays in the "death chamber" I will be posting a pic for you guys!  Good luck to all!

So I was a little excited yesterday, watching my g5's fly from 50 yards got my motor running. Sorry Banwalker I was only thinking of myself when I posted. Maybe I should of posted " I'm all ready, who needs help". If I can help out Banwalker in any way let me know, that goes to anyone else. I'm not planning on deer hunting until the 8Th eastern, so if someone needs help that first week let me know. I'll drive. Glad you have your deer picked out jjhunter, must be nice. I hunt elk & a mulie is a bonus in my area,  so I don't have my deer picked out. I do love my area. Thanks for all the good wishes and I'll do my best. Mike

Want to come get mine sighted in now too?  :bash:
I love this single pin sight for targets, but seems to be a bit of a pain for sighting in.  Not sure about the Crimson Talons I am using.  Even with FOBs they are not hitting well.  Hit better with Blazers on Beman MFX shafts, but still not satisfied.  Running out of time.  Maybe I should quit going after bear so much and focus on getting ready!

No you don't! Cause if you were 23 and this prepared you would stay up too late the night before you left drinking and chasing girls and then forget your release or your arrows at home!

Oh and if you are wondering? it wasn't me, it was a friend of mine!

Probably true about the age thing, I just wish it didn't take so long to get my sh!t together. I would of been so much more successful. I'm shooting ics elite Dekuma (.001 straight) with the g5 broadheads. I spun test the crap out of them until perfect & returned ones that wobbled. When I shoot from 50 or 60 yards I actually think my broad heads fly better and more stable than my field tips. I'm hitting a 5 inch circle with broadhead consistently from 50 & 60 yards and that is great shooting for me. I quit drinking a few years ago so if I forget my release at home its from Alzheimer's.

I am going to have to get after it here shortly and get it worked out.  Appreciate the advice.
If you forget your release, you better learn how to shoot fingers real quick!  I am looking forward to your pics!!

I am prepared too as far as my gear is concerned. I, however, have no idea where I am going to hunt.  :o I have my camera out right now hoping to pin down the travel lanes of a certain buck. If he uses the ones my cam is on, then its game on.

Not giving you advice dekuma, just telling you what I was shooting. I know your working on a little more technical system than I am shooting. My combination is shooting well, best I ever shot. good luck guys. mike

There's nothing wrong with being in your 20's I just pack an extra release so when I'm out all night the night before chasing girls I am covered!!  The best of both worlds!!  I've been on the stair climber with a 45lb lead vest getting ready.  Sept 8th isn't coming soon enough for me, but you guys have me worrying about my bow with all of this tuning stuff.  It is shooting good so don't fix it if it aint broke?  Good luck to all.  I'm ready NOW!

I am driving tacks right now out to 30 yards, but need more room to get any longer range.  My daughter just bet me I could not shoot the slug off the target from 20 yards.  I showed her!  Not sure I like the slime on my arrows though!

Went out shooting today at a buddy's 3d course. First target, bear standing up at 50 yards, right in the 2" circle. Hopefully I can do that when a deer or elk is standing there.

Did you double lung the slug ? What kind of blood trail ? Glad your dialing in, I had to fix up my center of target and bails of hay behind because I had punched it all out with my bullseyes. My arrows started to about go through, burying right up to fletching. First time ever I can get back to 60 yards and hit a four inch circle consistently with broad heads. Keep up the dialing in and fun. My wife and kids are getting tired of my practicing, nobody will play with me any more. They say " Like dad we know you are excited... Hello "

No blood trail needed.  Right through the back and DRT.
My kids say the same thing.  I am driving them crazy!
