*2008-09 Waterfowl Competition*
*You will need to register your team by September 25th to SilkWWU in a PM, teams will consist of two people.
*Teams consist of two people.
-If you do not have a partner to hunt with, I suggest getting one or being ok with only having the point maximum of one limit.
*All Washington State Hunting Laws-Federal Regulations must be followed.
*Teams will be on a running tally of points throughout the year.
*Every Sunday for ten weeks, one person from your team will post your team scores, including pictures, and descriptions of your limit. IE: We killed four ducks, two mallard drakes, 1 bufflehead drake, and 1 hen mallard (Picture Must be Included!)
*Point system breakdown to follow!
*You may report a maximum of two days per competition week (one must be a Saturday or Sunday--both may be used, but at least one reported day has to be a weekend).
*East and West will be combined into one point system.
*There is no monetary reward for this tournament, but there will most likely be a traveling trophy.
*Also, there is a lot of "honor system" that goes into reporting, I encourage everyone to hunt ethicaly and report ethicaly.
More Details To Follow!

Do partners have to be members? Sounds like it will be fun even though I know I will get my ass kicked.
-
No the partners do not have to be members (but come on how hard is it to sign up) but you may only have one partner throughout the year.
-
I just got off the phone with Tall Cheif Hunting Club and we are in, but were not going to win!
-
I'm sure I've got my partner lined up, just waiting for confirmation.
I don't think there's a duo out there that rivals General Disarray and Professor Chaos. Bring on the season!
-
When you get your partner, please send me confirmation through a PM so I can add them to the list. Thanks.

Are there going to be bonus points if the birds are taken with a muzzleloader? I just picked up a Knight KT2000 and am looking for an excuse to keep it. LOL Also, when does the 10 weeks start, or is it any 10 weekends throughout the season? Just wondering , because of deer-elk seasons I usually don't get serious until Thanksgiving or so. Are out of state hunts going to count ? Sounds like fun, I just have to line up a partner that can shoot. That eliminates most of the guys I know. Maybe I'll scout out the trap club next week and look for a ringer!!
-
can my partner be my dog? :)
-
Does my partner have to hunt with me ? I've got a friend about 3000 miles away thats an avid waterfowler... will that count ? :IBCOOL:
-
hahahhaha, unfortunately not. This is a Washington Hunting competition. Oh, I should make that apparent. Any out of state hunting will NOT be counted.
-
can my partner be my dog? :)
Yes, but I don't think you can increase your bag limit with him. :tung:

It's going to start October 11th, first weekend of the month. I was originally going to do 8 weeks, but you will just have to work around deer/elk. I know I'm going to be missing two weekends because I'll be at Elk camp, so I added two additional weeks. But remember, you can do night hunts during the week after work! (Thank god I have Tuesday's Wednesday's off!

I could win this thing by shooting 25 coots a day....they don't call me Mossberg-mudhen for nothin! Anybody got any good coot recipes? That trophy is mine....
On a serious note.... state waterfowl possession limits should be recognized. Eat what you kill...don't just kill for points... :twocents:
-
Here is a good coot recipe!
Take your coot and breast it out. Take a 2.5 gallon bucket and put the coot into the bucket. Then take a $#it in the bucket. Wait two weeks throw the coot out and eat the $#it! ENJOY! :chuckle:
-
Sooo, when is the 10 weeks up? If it's a running 10 weeks that puts it early Dec. which would cut off the last 6-7 (and usually most productive)weeks of the seaso. And any brant, snow goose, and maybe even sea duck hunters looking to score would potentially be left out. And I'm still searching for a partner who can shoot lights out and has an endless supply of ammo. Oh, there's not an ammo limit is there?
-
BC Chaser that reminds me of a joke..lol ...Remind me not to eat at your campfire... :chuckle:
-
We eat better at camp than we do at home! No $#!t litterally!

In my experience the most successful parts of the season are EARLY season. But, final stuff isn't out, I may extend it to 12 weeks.

Canvasbacks are illegal to shoot. They will not be counted, and we encourage you to IDENTIFY before you shoot!
Eurasian Widgeon and Barrow's Golden eyes will be given 10 points each.
Full limits of mixed sex is an additional 5 points per hunt. Proof of picture.
All male full limits add an additional 10 points per hunt. Proof of picture.
Dusky Geese...You will have a negative deduction of -10 points if you shoot a dusky. I know most of you won't report it, but...
Points will be added by the waterfowl hunters themselves and will be trusted by the commitee and all the HUNT-WA.com members to take pride in counting there ponts appropriately and making sure that they dont add un-accounted for points. We are going to trust the honor system and see if we can all be adults.......
know go have fun and shoot some ducks......points will be comprised for a weeks diration and then tallied against other hunters to see who wins from week to week.....
Week counts will begin the sunrise of monday and continue till the sunset of the following sunday.

How about banded birds? I hope everyone plays fair!
-
How about banded birds? I hope everyone plays fair!
Banded ducks will be given a bonus point double of watever the species designated point is.......so whatever it is times two (x2).
-
Again, this is not a money tournament, so hopefully everyone won't be greedy and post inaccurate numbers. Teams will be responsible for submitting there point values to me every week (detailed w/photo)
-
seriously, 2 points for a spoony?
I'm competitive but not competitive enough to include garbage ducks in my limits....
Good thing we know how to pound the mallards and are patient enough to look for bands!
-
we could always do an early season competition and follow it up with a late season one?
-
Yep, General I was kinda thinking along the same lines as you. I think I was in my 2nd or 3rd year of waterfowling the last time I spent any lead (it was legal in those days for you newbies) on buffleheads, mergys, or coots. This is going to change my whole outlook on species desirability. I can see it now...... a dozen greenies locked up , feet reaching for the water.........and a wayward goldeneye comes whistling by!!! Yep, I'm still gonna take the mallards. I'm just hoping I can do well the few times I'm going to get out. As late as summer is, it may be December before we get any good duck huntin' weather anyway Oh well, I just hope the dude I know who's feeding 150 wood ducks doesn't enter this or nobody stands a chance!!!!
-
Again, this is a competition. This is not about how many mallards you can kill, which would make this a bloodbath competition. Those on the East side have the higher volume of mallards, and should limit more often then the west siders, but the west side has the rarer ducks, which will balance it out. Bands, and all male limits give East Siders much higher bonus opportunities.
Point values will remain the same, and we will have only 1 season for competition. Rules will be finalized shortly.
PLEASE SUBMIT YOUR TEAMS TO ME IN A PM ASAP!!!!!!!!

any distinction on drakes versus hens for points? i.e. are you really giving 3 points for a hen pintail or 5 for a hen wood duck?
What about gadwall? snow geese?

I agree, conferring with other committee members on ideas and solutions. Keep the feedback coming, some I like, others I don't but feedback is awesome!
-
General shoot some ducks, have fun, count your points and if you are as good as you are cockie then you will win......and there are alot of people who dont ever get a chance to see spoonbills ever during therehunting season, so yes a spoonbill or as you call a garbage duck is worth 2 points.....
all hens regardless of species are worth 1 point.......
and gadwall and snowgoose will be added acordingly......
thanks for the suggestions guys, have fun, be safe and find a partner because partners get more points..........(secret)
-
Canvas back scaup?
-
we could always do an early season competition and follow it up with a late season one?
This season there will only be one "season."
-
Canvas back scaup?
Scaup or blue bills will be added...those were thought up afterword and just havent been added to the original list yet......
SilkWWU please add those to the list and give points to them accordingly.....
canvasbacks....Canvas backs were not listed because they are not huntable in washington state as stated in the 2008 regs.....
scaup(bluebill).... 2
Coots are worth .... 0 points
-
Is the canvas back deal new? If yes is there a reason for it?
-
Is the canvas back deal new? If yes is there a reason for it?
Yes, there numbers are down, so they have restricted the season.
-
I should have mounted the one I shot last year! :bash:
-
Is the canvas back deal new? If yes is there a reason for it?
i believe it was restricted last year also, possably for the last couple years but im not 100% positive all i iknow is it is this year.....
remeember everyone still needs to know the regulations and follow the rules....
our rules are in addition to those rules given by the WDFW.
thanks again guys......AJ
-
I could find nothing in the 07-08 regs about canvas back being off limits.
-
It was legal last year and years before. It was a shorter season is all........
-
And hens shouldn't be any points..............they should be minus points if anything
-
General shoot some ducks, have fun, count your points and if you are as good as you are cockie then you will win......
Will do... how'd the Winduk work for you?

My partner (Deadduck15) had the day off today and I just got a play by play for like 20 minutes on a honey hole that we are fairly positive no one really knows about. Absolute gold mine, I haven't gotten that excited in a while, he had ducks just bombing in right on top of him...mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm...I seriously wanted to take off my tie, run home and grab my shotty and start just shooting!
-
You just banned yourself from the competition! :ban: SORRY! :chuckle:
-

*clears throat* BC Chaser, I hear by deem you unworthy to compete. Ya.
I just went out there myself, and it was so good out there I don't know where I'm going to set up!
Also...I have a question I want to ask the general waterfowl competition community...My season is going to start of hunting with DeadDuck, but he is due to have his baby Oct. 16th, should we allow a back up person to hunt in case of extreme circumstances such as this? (Not..my buddy got to drunk the night before)
-
Yeah I would say that would be ok but...........you take a hit in points! It would only be fair.
-
baby's due on the 16th, I think the season is closed then anyhow. don't tell me he's taking 6 weeks maternity leave... should be able to get out a couple of times there.
I say no subs
-
I agree with General
-
no subs
-
No...season opens Oct 11. 5 days before his baby is due. So it would be like a two week sub.
-
yeah and then it closes for the 16th and 17th! haha I say no Subs!!
-
are you sure we cant extend this thing to idaho too
-
Ha ha fine. I'll just have to explain to his wife that he can't stay home with the baby. He has a waterfowl competition that he has to compete in :P I can limit just fine by myself! Heh!
-
We currently have FOUR teams signed up. We can do better then that guys!
-
I don't hunt with a partner usually just my labs. My son is 6...Do you have to a have a partner....? I hunt with buddies several time during season but not everytime. Usually its me and the dogs. I shoot limits all the time.
-
i have had the last few days off from work so i have been scouting hard around the areas where i hunt and was really impressed with the amount of birds i saw. so far this season is looking like its going to be awesome.
-
count me a Spencer in
-
Yup I guess Myself and Choclab will give it a go...
-
What about early goose???
