Alright guys ive never hunted out of western washington before and im starting to save up for a hunt for me and my dad...i want to suprise him in a year or 2 with a hunt...neither of us have done it before and was wondering which state to go...i want to get a muley buck...just a respectable 4pt...i have family in central idaho and in colorado springs so ive considered both places.....any suggestions from you guys is much appreciated...im open to any state not just those 2

I would recomend MT and WY along with the two you already mentioned. You have until the end of September to buy points in both MT and WY. And i would buy the points.
-
I would avoid Idaho personally. Colorado still has a much better pool of bigger bucks, other than that, Utah!
-
Nevada? :dunno:

do what ever gives you the most time in the feild..basicaly try an stager your hunts,
dont go to another state expecting it to be better or easyr either..theres trophy animals ever where so realy it just comes down to spending loads of time in the field.....
..idaho has some great hunting..nev been to calorado but it seems to have a very high kill rate
idaho is a shorter drive..might think about that

Ive been kinda leanin towards idaho...i have faimly there so my scouting is done for me before i step foot in the state...he sets up a base camp for 2 weeks with a big wall tent....pretty much guarantees me a wolf...so that will be the easiest and cheapest

If you have a year or two to plan for a hunt and want to kill a deer, why are you worried about the cheapest and easiest. A year to plan for a hunt is more than enough time and aint that hard. As for the money, you will still have to buy a tag, gas money over, food to buy, and the gear you will need on the hunt. I got my dad to put in for MT last year with no idea of where to go. We drew a deer tag and the work began. Hit the internet and called every single fish and game employee that would talk with me and narrowed my search to a great block management ranch. For under a thousand each, we drove over and both killed great deer in 2.5 days of hunting. Needless to say, we have tags again and are on our way again in November.

I like Eastern Monatna...... Lots of private land tha tis open to hunting, north south or central. Plenty of deer if you work at it.

Montana is startin to sound good....a grand a piece is a cheap hunt.......i also dont mind huntin hard for an animal...more rewarding..i was just wonderin from everyones expierences where we would have a good chance at baggin a couple good bucks....im just hittin up members on here as the first part of my research....ive only hunted grays harbor my whole life and its quite a task to bag a good 4 pt here.....it would be a nice change of scenery to be able to glass more than 10yds like we have to in the harbor :chuckle:

After huntin both Idaho and Montucky, I'd go to Montucky... I think you can draw deer only combos fairly easy now too.....
-
Montana no doubt, go to eastern Montana and I am sure you will find what you are looking for with a little research.
-
In the right areas Eastern montana has about the most successful deer hunting around, unless you draw a good tag in a top mule deer area of another state, it's hard to beat. Herds are down in many areas, but still better than most states.
-
Montana it is.....thanks guys
-
I don't remember if this has happened before but you can buy a deer combo tag over the counter right now. No draw or anything. You could do it this year.
-
Can anyone help point me in the direction on where to buy a pt in MT? I can't find it on their website, I'm sure I probably just glanced over it. Found WY's. Thanks.

Its on the left hand side of there home page. Its mail in only.
