The Nisqually opened July 1st, but its just now starting to draw crowds. I fished the Nisqually a few times in July without a single fish.
I hit the Puyallup opening day. Hooked three and landed one. The fish I landed was hooked within the first 5 minuets of me being on the river and I turned it back...should have kept it. It was about 10 lbs and I would say just over 24" and slightly bronze.
I was testing an egg cure I "created" this past winter. I was dragging the eggs (no float) with a fish pill.

You should have stuck with the Puyallup tried and true 3/0 hook with black yarn. Deadly when fished on a 10' leader!

i grew up fishing the nisqually, i sure enjoyed it more 15-20 years ago when a crowd in august was a dozen guys spread out between the trestle and old pacific highway!
those fish don't even really start to show until late july, and mid august-early september is when the bulk of them come in. unfortunately they have the lockjaw worse than almost any salmon i've ever fished for, except maybe those chehalis hatchery silvers. every now and then they'll go on the bite and it can be a lot of fun though. i just hate how much access has been lost over the past 6 or 7 years, on a river that didn't have much to start with. first thurston county made the side of the road "no parking" in '06, then somehow the gravel bar above the trestle went "pay to play" a few years ago. really turns the place into an even bigger zoo.

No, but most on the Puy do. Nothing like claiming that the fish bit a corky and giant hook on a 10 foot leader in .5 inches of visibility.

I'm gonna head down there this afternoon and maybe tomorrow, will post results. probably 5th, or the can, maybe up a little further. looks pretty brown but time to get the gear wet regardless!
-
Yea, it is pretty darn chocolate brown right now.
-
I went this morning, after work for a bit. Water is too high. I may try again after work tomorrow, depending on the water level. Keep reporting in. Thanks

Have never fished the Puyallup, anybody know if there are issues with fishing it in a small boat?
-
we hit the Puke yesterday :fishin: after work for 1 1/2hrs..... throwing everything possible (even money :chuckle:) not a single takedown....... the water is too murky very low visibility.I think there were 3 people on the whole river ..... I'll keep reporting in few

I have had no time to get down there. Just too much other activities. BUT I would go more up river. The water tends to be a little (Not a lot) clearer up river.
-
yah got to get above the stuck if you want decent water.

Well......no kings :( but......picked up a silver this morning :IBCOOL:
-
Another pic. Bright, bright, bright

It absolutely amazes me that the little, pukey, nasty, spewage of a river gets combat fished like it does! :bash:
Nice fish though
