I picked one up on a trade over the weekend for what I thought was a pretty smokin deal. I don't know much about the cartridge. What can you guys tell me?
-
Your going to love it. They use it for moose in scandanavia (though most would consider it small for that purpose). It's just an all around classic cartridge like the 7x57 mauser.
The modern day .260 is pretty close in comparison (maybe a little hotter)

You are going to love this gun. Great caliber. Been many a animal shot with one.

I am itching to get it out and see how it does on song dogs. Thanks for the input, would love to hear anybody else's take as well.
-
Oh and it would make an awesome kid gun. Recoil is very light.
That caliber is devastating on deer sized game.
-
Sweet, I was thinking of it as a possible kid gun, my buddy has a young son coming up this year, may have him try this instead of him buying something and have the kid not like it.

Great cartridge! 95 gr V-Max's for varmints and the new 140gr Accubond. What's not to love?
-
Did you get the M96 or the 38?
-
Great cartridge  140 accubond would be my pick as well

This gun is a build and is sporterized. Have it with me today, gonna do some digging.

I built a swede from a Yugo M48 and I placed a Adams & Bennett light weight barrel on it. It would not shot very good with heavy bullet because of the light weight barrel. I hope that who ever built your swede used a better barrel.
-
I have a friend/member here who is way more knowledgable on these things than I that is coming to look at it today. Will let you know what he has to say.

My brother has one, sweet round!

It's not the lightweight barrel that makes heavy bullets shoot bad, it's the rate of twist your barrel has.

Yes your correct on that. However this particular barrel of Adams & Bennett has a 1-9" twist did not do so well and when you up grade to a heavier barrel of the same maker and twist the accuracy shrinks from 3" - 4" to .75" The reviews on it on MidwayUSA says the same thing.
Yes the ideal twist for the 6.5X55 is 1-7"
-
I would say the ideal twist for a 6.5x55 would be a 1-9 for across the board bullet selection and a 8 twist for the heavies and the 8 twist will still shoot the 95gr V-Max's with some serious RPM's and accuracy.
