I had two big 160 and a 190 whitetail on trail cam my setup was near a small creek now that the creek has dried I haven't gotten one pic of either bucks but still got pics of all the others. I was wondering if big bucks like that have a cycle or pattern or just where ran out of the area or went for more water. Any input? Thanks

I want to see pictures!
I have had deer dissapear for a week or two and then come back..
Were you getting pictures of them at the water or on bait near it?
is there other water in the area?
-
I'm getting pics over a salt block where the creek ran up till about 2 weeks ago there's water about a mile away but no alfalfa and I can't upload my pics for some reason it won't let me
-
Maybe their antlers hardened up and they headed back into the thick stuff. :dunno:

I can email pics to you or you can look at some of the ones I have on Facebook

salt is not a consistent attractor from mid July on... now if u had out feed and they disappeared I would guess they moved into their fall home.. my guess is they are still there
-
Another possibility is that they have learned to avoid your cams. Were you getting pictures of them at night? Did the flash ever seem to bother them?

No I was using A cuddeback attack ir with no flash and mostly day time pics and now we are using bait not salt we have apple corn with apples chopped up in it

All the bucks I have been watching disappeared too :dunno:. I haven't seen any of the 5 on my hit list in 3 weeks :yike:

Yep, by now most of my bucks dont care about salt... Food is what they are after!

food food food! apples and sweet mix are king now
-
:yeah: and mass quantitys... no need to chop apples up either. The deer do a great job of that. I have been going through 120+ lbs apples a week and 100+ lb sweet cob a week. At only 2 sites.

I think bucks go into seclusion when the velvet starts to come off. That probably causes an itch that takes their mind off of food. After that, their minds are on something else!

Where do you buy that much apple and sweet cob for a reasonable price?
-
Apples are free... :IBCOOL: and sweet cob is definitely not a reasonable price

If you don't want to or can't afford to run bait once they quit using the salt find their preferred trail and set up there. Make sure your camera is pointed down the trail and not pointed perpendicular with the trail.

We are putting out 50 pounds of corn and grain with apples cut in half so they are pretty well baited...
-
No need to cut those apples. They will last longer and stay fresher if you don't cut them. Trust me....they can smell and find them just fine.

Lets see the pics of these guys! :dunno:
