Title: Wolf hunting in WA
Post by: Kola16 on August 10, 2012, 03:57:05 PM
Well, what do you guys think? Maybe a wolf pelt or full body mount in 5 years or never  :dunno: Maybe we should all turn into woodland caribou huggers to get rid of the wolves  :chuckle:

I say 4-5, but hope sooner.

I think you will see them delisted in 2-3 years  and then the lawsuits will start. amkind them  about 6 years out.  :twocents:

I think you are way optimistic.
They have to get into the southern Cascades and possibly SW WA. I'm thinking three years for that. Then they have to document breeding pairs, couple more years for that. Then three years of watching them increase while the three year period to delisting pass. Then I think there will be some stalling but there will be so many problems on the east side I don't think lawsuits will get much traction. I'm going to put my money on 10 years.

Oh, and just to clarify, I am talking about hunting for the public, special permits, or something like that. Not like what the rancher in the NE corner has to do.
I think you are way optimistic.
I'm going to put my money on 10 years.

I am always optimistic  :chuckle:
And I will collect the money, just send it to me  :chuckle:

6-7
I'm with SpecialT on this one.  3-4 years, we will be there.  The stupid a$$ Bellevue and Seattle dollars will flow and the litigation will tie it up for a couple years while they sit perched in their little trophy house having never set foot in the areas affected by wolves.
PETA, Western Washington style.......

Same thing I was thinking... I voted 6-7 years but's it's probably more like 10-12....

I voted never but feel I need to clarify. My best guess is that in 6-7 years we will see delisting. Followed by 1-2 years of hunting before the voters of king county shut it down permanently.

The tree huggers in seattle care so much for the wolves that they will fight any delisting in our state.  You ask someone on the east side of the state and they would be for.  I would hope we would follow some lead from the other states and open a season before we startseeing the decline in our herds like Idaho and MT. are seeing.

If the pressure is applied to the right places and we get a new administration in our state, thinks could happen fast.......2 to 3 years could do it.  If not, wdfw needs to get sued by the sportsmen and women of the state.....class action.

Its the whole Puget Sound Basin, not just King county......

2018 hunting regs will read:  Special Permit application, wolf - $150.  Non refundable.  Tag, if successfully drawn - $500.

For residents.

Double that for nonresidents.

They'll be delisted, there will be lawsuits, and then we'll be allowed to hunt them.  And we're silly if we think WDFW isn't already looking into exactly how much they think they can get away with charging us for to hunt them  :twocents:

I voted 10-14 years. Big money from out of state will flow into Washington to help the antis file lawsuits, one right after another. They'll put on sorry looking wolf commercials too. We will never see a truthful commercial put on TV, ( the dead and dying animals ) because the liberal media won't allow it because the " children " might see it..........

In Washington, except for specail circumstances NR licenses are 10 times as much.

There aren't as many wolf lovers as everyone thinks there are. Once wolf problems escalate, I think the silent majority will take the side for managing wolves. There may not be a season for sport hunting statewide, but I bet they come up with a system somewhat like the cougar damage hunts that are still being used in areas with cougar problems.

I voted 4-5 years, I think wolves will get delisted in WA and I think the state is going to be forced to deal with wolves or some counties will do it and for that reason it will happen. In a few years something is going to have to happen in Stevens County one way or the other. The WDFW can either get on board with some responsible management or the people here will find a way to control wolves.

There have been a time in the past when the county nearly adopted their own wildlife management. WDFW wants to keep control, I am confident they will find a way to manage wolves in some manner.

That would be the best scenario, wrestle control from Olympia and make it a regional management scheme, with public elections.  Blanket management  phylosophies do not fly in such a diverse state. :twocents:

No, I think that you are just to pessimistic  :chuckle:

And I think that the idea of having seperate counties, controlling there wolf problems would be awesome. If the majority of people in King county want them, then dump them in King county. Let the wolves run through Olympia, and see how they like.

I am a nay sayer and voted for never, look at what the state has done to bear and cougar hunting. Then look at all the other states that have gone through the process, outside sources sue as soon as hunting is even mentioned. Add that with the brain dead idiots in king county with lots of money, you will have no hunting period. wolves will wipe out the game, and run the country side, hunting will be shut down and the department of fish and wildlife will transform into a animal control unit to take care of problem animals. While those of us that can cry, pack our stuff and move. I have heard the chatter of the anti's and they think this is a way to end hunting forever, bring all the predator populations up, and then game populations will fall to the point where they have to close down hunting, once this happens the predator populations will drop and everything will stabilize with nothing for man to take.  :bash: :bash: pay attention guys if we don't make our stand along with the cattlemen this very well could happen.

I hate to say it, but in this left wing ass state I could see it going that way.  If the east side could split into a seperate state I would be moving, but as it sits the I-5 corridor runs politics for the rest of the state.

2-3 years to be delisted then another 2-3 years in court then maybe just maybe we will be able to hunt them. the big question  is how much will it cost

You can shoot wolves now if you wish, but it may be illegal under certain circumstances.

If a wolf is shot in the woods but nobody is around to see it...was a crime committed?

Any body know what the current "confirmed" count is? Curious to know how many more we need before the delisting process begins.

I am in King County and hate this crap. If I could make the money I do on the wetside we would move in in a heartbeat.

You may think most in King county want them, but the people I know do not. Now, the politicians and WDFW may want them. But if we could get a real movement to get rid of the Dems it would be so different......

Ok rant over. Already know there have been sightings up in Skagit........time to be silent and quick.

Hate to say it, but if the lawmakers can't get it right, we should.
