This year with three elk tags, and providing I am successful on them, I will probably fill the freezer, give him any that he wants. The rest may just go to a big barbecue or to a needy family, or whomever helps me pack the damn thing out.

The best way to do it is to split the meat and cut the skull plate in half and each gets 1 antler. You could even have a half shoulder mount done! :chuckle: :chuckle:
You know that could be cool :) Split it strait down the middle nose to tail then do a full (half) body mount and hang flat side to wall !!!!!!

Generally my only other partner is Idabooner and he can have as much meat as he wants or can eat that his wife won't give away. :) I then keep his antlers and mine. :chuckle:

Pack is empty right now, but man it can hold alot..... Alittle out of the way, but then it is elk... If you need help :chuckle: :chuckle: Course I would have to load my pack, especially after hearing about your pack weight :yike: when you were up north, still insane? :chuckle:

I like the sound of this. Its simple enough with two hunters, but my buddy and I might be adding on a few this year. In this particular example, I take it that if a deer dressed out at 100lbs, and there were a total of five hunters, the shooter would get half, and the remaining four would split 25%... so the divison would be 50 * 12.5 * 12.5 *12.5 * 12.5.
I assume that agreement would be in effect only when the hunters are present. So if one hunts with us for a week of deer season, but then misses all of next week during elk season, and we get an elk, that hunter ain't gettin' squat.

If I am hunting alone I usually keep half or a quarter and donate the rest to friends who didnt get and animal or are in need of meat.

Thats about how we do it but my brother is a bachelor and he has no kids so I usually get a little more cause he doesn't want it. :IBCOOL:

Been living off of elk/deer/bear since last year...and it just seems like we havent even dented it at all.
We need to get another chest freezer before archery elk, I am sure.

It's just expected that if you see the animal, and choose to take it...it is YOURS.
As far as seeing an animal--he who saw it first has first dibs. If there are multiple others in the part who desire that animal, and the one who saw it passes, it's paper rock scissors or we play the guilt game!
The same is true when we're fishing (where our phrase originally came about).
There is no expectation to share anything, other than memories.
Now, if one of your buddies ends up skunked, or loses a rod, or has to pack half your animal out 5 miles...there is an optional gratuity, which usually comes in the form of a bottle of Crown Royal, or some nice backstraps, or more often than not a big BBQ where we can give them hell all afternoon. ;)

And I won't tolerate someone showing up at deer camp expecting half of someones animal. Just because we're all in camp together doesn't mean we all go home with meat.
If you really look around camp there are a few guys who never get animals and never put as much work into helping pack an animal out.
Just my personal feelings and observations.

My personall opinion is shooter gets rack and hide. and some should be given to those who help pack it out. Now if I can pack it all out myself I will still probably give some to my buddies cuz I'm such a nice guy. Regardless I'll have to deal with the misses for giving any meat away.

that is how we tend to do it...if there is more than one elk then its more of a "keep the antlers and the meat is divided in half then with N+1 shares...N being the number hunters, packers etc with the shooter getting antlers, half and 2 shares, the others get one share for the animals they help with...
