Whatcom or skagit? Last year another HUNTWA member saw one in Whatcom.
-
Not often. My son saw it last year. I can probably guess about where you were at. :chuckle:
-
I was in whatcom county... Up in the chowder ridge unit.. Pretty cool sighting I thought it was a a colored phase bear at first ... But as I got closer he got smaller... And his body language was really sparatic and alert to everything
-
I got video of him on my gopro video camera but I have to get home to see how well it turned out
-
No offense but I've got to see it to believe it. :tung:
-
Arteman was with me on the spot it was a wolverine if the video turns out I'll get it to a 3 nails...
-
Myself and a friend saw one in Chelan county last month.
-
I saw one up Boulder Pass by Curlew about 9 years ago. I thought it was a small bear too. Pretty cool. I told the WDFW and of course they said it wasn't. Typical answer from them.

Does anyone have an idea on why they do that. It seems stupid just to treat the people that give them money like dirt.

The WDFW actually said it was probably a Fisher from Canada. Ya right huh !!!
-
I'll vouch, we both thought it was a bear at first. The thing would keep standing up alert, almost acting nervous, then go back to doing whatever it was doing. It was silvery on the back with a blocky head, and had a long bushy tail. I had the scope out to snap pics of it if it was a bear, once we realized it wasn't a bear I didn't take pics. It's captured on the gopro but can't see detail, just its size. I wish I took pics through the scope now, didn't think they were uncommon.

I am with 3nails. I don't doubt it but am a little skeptical. There are a lot of marmots on top of Chowder that very much resemble a wolverine in the way they move, look, and color patterns are. Obvously smaller than a wolverine but size can be deceiving at a distance. Certainly not inmplying that you didn't see one but would love to see a pic.
-
P.S. Did you guys find any big Billy's??
-
Well........lets atleast see what you got on the gopro. I don't care if I can't see much.
-
I had a pair run up the road in front of my truck about 10 years ago near Rimrock, and to this day nobody believes me :chuckle:

I'll agree the country is deceiving, I seen it about 350+ yards out with a naked eye in the tall green vegetation and first thought it was a bear tell we got glass on it. We also seen a bunch of marmots up there as well and no comparison in size. As we glassed it I'm 100% positive it wasn't a Marmot, I've seen tons of them hiking the PCT. Maybe there is some other large varmont critter up there to explain it. Also with the gopro you can tell just by its size its a bigger animal.

I'll see what we can do for you. I never posted a video before. Not much of a video because the gopro doesn't zoom so you see it like you would with the naked eye and it just looks like a black spot on the hillside that far away. It's Nimrods video.

Just like bigfoot sightings! Something always goes wrong with the camera. :chuckle:

I've seen marmots up close and to be able to see a marmot at 400 yards with a naked eye would be skeptical...but threw my binos its was clearly a much bigger animal in size could not say for sure but 45 plus pounds would not be exaggeratingAnd he wasn't whistling I wish we has got pics and had a camera and everything we needed but used my gopro thinking it woud pick up but it only pick up its movement and color... It was exciting just the same hopefully I get another chance to take a pic... Now since its not a native animal can u harvest one?? The yeti can only be found if ur camping alone and ur in ur tent in the dark : :chuckle:
-
Wolverines are native, and you definitely cannot kill them. If you look at the WDFW's "Species of Concern" list, they are listed as a candidate for both federal and state endangered species.
-
I'm sure you can't shoot 'em. Call the WDFW for the right answer. They probably will give you a song and dance.... :chuckle:
-
Never had much of an urge to kill one probly not very good eaten

..............would of made a beautiful mount though.
-
Yes it would have :chuckle or a nice hat
-
Cool siting. I have no doubt you saw a wolverine. I wish you would have gotten some photos... but with your description it was defiantly not a fisher... fishers look like a 4' long moving duster. lol Saylean and I saw one in the Chewuch last weekend. I dont know if he got pictures of it or not.
-
we saw one about 10 years ago in 49 degrees north unit on my uncles property.
-
The one I saw was probably 3 feet long and maybe 18 inches off the ground. Had a short stubby, maybe 3 inch tail. He didn't stick around too long. It was balckish with kinda brown highlights in the hair.

:chuckle: I know right, maybe I should post on the other thread we seen a bigoot instead, had Dan-o been there we no doubt would have got the pic. :chuckle:

I swear I saw one in the olympics, but no pic means i am mistaken. Sucker was went snortin barrelin down the mtn as soon as it saw us. My dog started to go after it... luckily he came back to my call!
-
Saw one 25 years ago in Steven pass above Zekesville near the berry fileds
nobody believed me.
-
Don't doubt it for a second. There have been reports of a wolverine in that unit at least once a year the last few years. My dad saw one 2 yEars ago in that unit and we saw one about 10 years ago in a neighboring unit.
-
Several confirmed sightings in the glacier peak wilderness the last few years. One lady posted a photo of one in spider meadow on another sight.
-
Buddy and I were hiking back to the trailhead a few years ago and came face to face with one in the North Cascades. It was pretty decent sized compared to the ones I have seen alive and dead in Alaska.

:yeah:
I have never seen one myself but got reports of pictures 10 years ago, nice sighting.

They have been around Rainy and Heart's Pass for years. When they started that research project a few years ago, all the old timers from Twisp to Winthrop were laughing at the researchers telling them were they would find them. A short while later they get hair and pics exactly where they were told to look, lol
