So tonight I'm sitting in my climber calling and low and behold about 6 song dogs show up. After watching them for a bit I think, "these S.O.B.'s are ruining my hunt....BLAM". One 180 grain Accubond latter I've got a dead fawn killer down.
What do you guys do when coyotes ruin your stands?
Am I done for the night or should I keep at it. My experience has been that deer don't seem to run from gunshots, do bears?
This is the third time I've shot a coyote bear hunting although the first couple times I was just sitting.

I just shot a other one. These things are starting to piss me off.

Might as well shoot them all
-
Next time bring along a handful of non expensive ammo. Only thing I'd be hesitant about is wasting an accubond on those nasty things

This pic is from my stand about 25 feet up.

Lol pile them up!

Hand loaded Accubonds are still cheaper than cheap factory stuff.
I can't shoot any more. I've only got 2 rounds left. (I road the dual sport so I was packing light)

The shooting ruined your bear stand, not the coyotes.
Lots of guys will start a bear stand with distress, then a few coyote howls and then more distress. It plays out as a natural situation where a coyote kills a rabbit or fawn which makes an easy meal for the bear. This sequence has worked a couple times for me.
-
Its just sooooo hard to let the things walk!

Deer run from gunshots. Unless if it's a stupid mulie. Bear are even more skiddish than deer. Usually.

Well...I'm out of ammo. Figured I'd call some more...and more came.

Either ur up to your ears in yotes or you can blow the hell out that call you got!!
Great job regardless if you see a bear or not!!

:yeah: Nice work

Keep going, I have lots of yotes on the property and it seems the last few months, that's all I get on my trail cam. I'll be packing my calls this next trip up to thin them down some.
-
Good job.
I was bear hunting last weekend and saw a few myself.
Here's some before and after pictures. Those 180 grains do a number on them.
-
Looks like bear food to me? Hmmm?
-
A few years back, I shot a bear in a small cut and after cleaning it and packing it to the edge of the cut I turn around to see another bear only a hundred yards from where my bear fell. My friend proceeded to miss right over the top of it. I would assume a gun shot would bother a bear but apparently not all of them.
-
Nice shooting I need to get busy, and start thinning them around my place somemore they have gotten too smart to walk in range of my bedroom window anymore.

Wouldn't that be baiting, or were you in a different state.
Anyway. One of my dad's friends in Montana has a nice spread of land that something like this happens. Whenever the bears here a shot, they come running because they know that something has died. Easiest bear hunting ever.
-
Same thing happened to a buudy and I yesterday, three came a running and he whacks two outta three!

We had that discussion on here last year. remnants of a hunt, as long as not placed for the purpose of baiting is not baiting was the consensus if I remember correctly.
-
Bear will book it from a gun shot!

That's actually pretty cool. I like that rule.
-
A bear might run from a shot initially....but they are curious and might come back to investigate if you miss...don't ask how I know but I do...... :yike:
-
Hell yeah! Too bad they ruined your bear hunt, but lead was flying and yotes were dying! That sounds like a good night to me!
-
It looks more like you ruined their hunt. :chuckle:
 better deer season ahead.

:yeah:
Last year spotted a bear feeding on berries about 4oo yards from where 2 guys where blowing off their pistols at some cans for target preactice. Suprised the heck out of me that any bear was in the immediate area with all that racket going on. Like BGhunter says .....some bears just don't care I guess.
-
The more 'yotes you clear out of your hunting area, the easier it is to see what you are hunting for.

Thats just good hunting glory being shined down upon you from the the hunting God.
I have only passed on 2 coyotes while bear hunting...and that was pretty tough for me to do. Nice work.
-
Ive passed on a few this year bear hunting. Keep shooting them for me.
-
When you guys shoot a yote do you just leave it there to be eaten by another animal? I haven't looked into hunting them, and wouldn't know what to do if I shot one.
-
Bear will book it from a gun shot!
Depends on what kind of bear i guess I saw a show where brown bears are actually coming to gun shots because they associate it with a fresh kill. I know your talking black bears just thought it was interesting
-
KILL ALL THOSE DOGS! its not very often that you get 3 coyotes off of one stand!

Leave it..... It's a coyote..... I have one on the wall.... Full winter coat..... That's all I need..... Unless I get a color phase.....
