I got a bear head that needs to be turned into a bear skull. I'd like to have it made into a mount like this:

Thoughts on price and who I should talk to?
Thanks in advance!!!

I've never seen one like that....
I might be interested in doing the same....
Maybe we can get a deal if we put a group of em together??? :hello:

Sounds good to me. I think it looks classy, like a museum piece. The women I bring around are probably too urban to handle the normal 'bear head on the wall' mount. :dunno:

I know that Michelle_Nelson and turkey slayer both do well on skulls.
There is a list of sponsor taxidermists here: http://hunting-washington.com/smf/index.php?topic=81381.0 (http://hunting-washington.com/smf/index.php?topic=81381.0)

Its not cheap to do a metalized skull . Basically your looking at the cleaned price from the taxidermist , plus the cost of shipping ( Say $30.00) and the metalizing of the skull wich will run $195.00 for the taxidermist without the profitt mark up, plus the base . Im gona say that would more than likely be a 4-500 dollar bill. Looks cool .

Here is a website for ya. The prices are for already cleaned and degreased skulls.

Whoo.....pricy for metalized. I've always liked the idea of a euro on bear skulls. I would like one done with a bear claw necklace. Then I can have the skull and a shadow box with the claws and a pic. I think Michelle did one last year as a set....the skull.....plaque.....claws. It was sweet! Maybe she'll post it up.

Can someone explain that process?

This was off of another metalizing website.
Metalizing
In 1999 Montana Skullworks started putting real metal on skulls. We were the first skull cleaning business to use and offer this process on skulls and consider our finished product to be the best. This is a patented cold process that uses metal and a polymer binder. It is applied in a very thin layer to preserve all detail and cut back on excess weight. After coating, the piece is sandblasted to remove oxides. A patina is then put on it which will turn the piece black. Afterwards it will be polished leaving the recessed areas black which will give the piece a cast look. We offer bronze and nickel-silver metals. There are others available but just give the same basic colors. If you are interested in another metal e-mail us.
After it is polished, a ceramic coating is put on. We have tried other coatings throughout the years and have found this one to be the best. It will put a hard and durable coating on the metal , that could actually stand up to the outside elements. Your skull will be transformed in to an art piece that will last a lifetime and look good in any décor.

:chuckle: Dipped in BRONZE it looks like to me :dunno: crazy !

I could be wrong but that dosent look like a metalized skull. There is a process called fossilizing which involves soaking skulls in tea or usually coffee and coffee grounds or other darkening agents. They can then be buffed, waxed or sprayed with a clear coat to get the glossy look. This is a Coyote skull done this way.
-
Oooooo....cool.

Or you could do this using metal patterns like brushed aluminum.

I'd go with Charlie ...

Charlie has taken a bunch of my money.
He's gonna keep getting it too. Figure I owe to him, as everytime im down that way I propbably cost him an hour+ of production telling war stories :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle:
Yet to be unhappy with Charlie. He's damn good at what he does!

That was my thought on seeing it also. It looked like one of those casts of a fossilized/tar pit type skull. It does look pretty cool though.

If price of metalizing is an issue you may try what NW Hydro was explaining about having it dipped but use a metal, or rock type pattern that matched your liking. Here is one I finished the other day for a client, there are endless patterns that you could pick from. Take a look here.
