Finally got my arse in gear and am ready for my first outing. Truck is packed, trigger lock is off the rifle, correct ammo packed, a few Gatorades, a new book, and some quick blind making material. I'm heading up to a little spot that is going to have about 40 yards max range on a shot. My plan is to sit, wait, watch, and do some calling. I've double checked my license, tag, knives, headlight, rope, and plenty of TP. Got my bike in the FJ, got my game cart and a tarp as well. My plan is to shoot the furry beast with my .308 and have a DRT bear. Get it cleaned out and maybe even game bagged to keep the bugs off. Then, bike back to the truck, grap my game cart, head back up and load him on, then back to the truck. I'll skin him tomorrow night, qtr, halve, whatever it takes to get him into a cooler with some ice for overnight. To the butcher I'll go on Thursaday on my lunch.
Now all I need is a bear.
Wish me luck!

Good luck! Make sure to pack a ton of water, I went out this morning with a fellow HUNTWA member and we were sweating buckets by 0800.
-
Good luck...hope you nail one of those furry little buggers. If I remember right this would be your first, as it was mine this last friday, if you connect it will be all you think about for days. :chuckle: :chuckle:
-
Yep. Looking for my first. Had a shot on one last year....DRock and I called him Little Fatty. Had a big bow close with my bow but needed him another 10 or 15 yards closer. Got my Gatorade packed. Thanks for the well wishes.
-
 luck
-
Good luck.. remember your camera???? :chuckle: :chuckle:
-
Will do. With the glory of the smartphone I'll probably be online as well.
-
good luck h20 ,keep us posted .....unfortunately I have to work ,but I like your idea of heading out during the week :chuckle:
-
Go get em
-
I'm all packed up and don't even leave until Thursday.
-
Where you going ? I'm packed up and headed to the Loomis/Okanogan/Winthrop area. I might motel it because I'm alone and vulnerable to single women in the woods............ :chuckle:

I believe there is a fire north of Winthrop now. Fairly small, but you should be aware of it. FYI... http://www.inciweb.org/incident/3133/ (http://www.inciweb.org/incident/3133/)
-
sounds like a great plan  Hope to see some pictures of the furry animal!
-
Good luck to you guys. Wish I had the funds this year to make it out for more than just a day hunt here and there this year for bear. Saving my $$ and time off for deer and elk this year
-
Good Luck H2O, have you seen anything on your game camera? Maybe I'll hike in around 7:00 to check on you! :yike: :chuckle: My dr did clear me to ride my bike. I was thinking of going out in your area for a ride since it's mostly flat, but If I do I'll stay clear of your spot.
-
Take a look at my bear and flamingo thread in the cam section....
-
Good luck to you.
-
Good luck!!
-
Go get em H20... I hope they do not start closing sheet down do to fire closures .....but it is feeling alot like hunting now ...just the smell in the air - hearing elk bugles and seeing velvet come off is getting me a little pumped up ! Good luck !
-
Thanks....just have to get through the work day then I'm getting after it. Planning on hitting a new to me spot on Friday after work. Fellow site member gave me a little direction on some promising area.
-
Dont forget some water and shorts! :chuckle:
Good luck man. Insect repellent?
-
Insect repellent...check.
-
good luck
-
Only 9 am and I'm watching the clock.
-
Those flamingos might be considered baiting :chuckle:.
I'm excited to hear after the hunt report. If you get one I would like to help even if it's just when you process it. I have only seen one bear processed and it was me telling my buddy how to do it from the tips I had read on this site.
-
Right on....if and when I do bag one I'll post up probably needeing an extra pair of hands in the field. I'm confident I can gett the knife work done and him loaded up and back to the truck. Worst part may be trying to load it myself. We can have a skinning get together in my garage. I'm out of beer so somebody will have to stop at the quick mart and grab a sixer. While they are there they could even get some for themselves!
-
good luck
-
I can do better then a sixer. I home brew so I have a five gallon keg ready
-
HOMEBREW!
How am I just now learning this?
Is is 4 yet?
-
Why did you wait 2 weeks before you started hunting?
-
Lazy. Busy crabbing. Hanging with my boy. Waiting for the itch to overtake me. Probably just lazy. Spent a lot of time on the boat.
-
You'll probably kill one first day out.
-
We'll see. If I have a shot this evening it will be fairly close....I'll be looking for DRT both shoulder or head shot.
-
You got my number if you need help packing one out.
-
Yep.
-
2 hours untill I leave work
3 hours until I'm in my spot
-
Almost sounds like your going out on a first date? ;)
-
Getting lucky is getting lucky. You just never know!
-
Better take protection then. :yike:
-
I shall......Marlin .308 Express.
-
Maybe goldeneye's a litter jealous :chuckle:

Not in the least. Not for yogi's. Bulls, bucks, or ducks is another story. I am happy for H20. Hoping he get's his first.
-
Good luck man. Don't forget to call D-Rock if you need help packing one out :chuckle:
-
IF I connect I'm calling a whole bunch of ya! Even if it is just to say I got one.
-
Your going up to C-Post, right?
-
Yep. See what kind of shape my flamingos are in.
-
Never thought of using them as decoys. Did you apply doughnut scent to them?
-
Nope...no scent. The pink really seems to anger them without needing to dope them. I hope they leave my FJ alone!
-
LOL, taking the "Hello Kitty" gun up with you? That'd suck if an old boar got busy with your FJ...
-
15 minutes left in my work day........
-
You're serious about the flamingos? Like the white trash trailer park type?

-
Yes. Very serious. They are my bear decoys. Goldeneye linked my thread.........
-
On stand....no action....doing a little calling......f'ing bugs.....
-
atleast with how thick it is you should be able to hear the bears way before you see them
-
Pink Flamingo's aren't working? Thought that was your key to success?
Flies are biting you huh? Been there...
-
Calling til 8.....slow hunting out towards dark.
-
Gotta tell you. The beer I'm sipping on right now, tastes real good and is refreshing. The A/C isn't feeling bad either...
Good luck h20!
-
I would think that you would prob see some yotes
-
Not seeing anything.....goofy birds squaking at my calling is about it.
-
Im gonna head up Friday even though it is way to hot. Get some scouting done and maybe call uphill from the truck. Maybe I will blast a yote or something. :dunno: Better than being home and doing chores. :chuckle: :chuckle:
-
Home safe and sound. No bears. Good to be out.
-

I was at home all day so I was checking all day to see if ya got one
-
No bears for me last night. I thought for sure you would kill one.
-
Zip for me as well. Got reports of them near Buzzaed Lake and Rock Creek campground near Omak. Saw some nice muley bucks.
-
Better luck next time Bro. I'll be out and about on Sunday. I plan on hunting dawn to dusk. It's supposed to cool down to low 70's. I hope it really does.
-
Brother in law is trying to get out tomorrow. I'm booked Sunday but may be alble to get out for a hunt Sat morning. My problem is I'm commited to date night early afternoon so if....IF....I shot something I'd be pressed for time. Sunday I'll be out crabbing and have a big bbq with the family planned.
