so my friend drew the mount spokane cow moose tag and i was invited to go with him. i am trying to find out about camping in the area. he has a big 5th wheel and i have my small wall tent so just trying to find out where the best place to stay over there is.
thanks

There are dozens of awesome places to camp and be in moose right near your camp. The FS allows dispersed camping and there are piles of great pull off areas to park the big camper and a tent- you shouldn't have any trouble at all finding moose or camping spots!

The park in chewelah

Google Sutton Bay Resort. It's on Newman lk. Talk to Smitty. He has guys stay ther every year. Thompson Creek is just right up the road. Get yourself an Inland Paper permit and you will be into the moose.
-
ya hes got his inland permit. ive heard lots of people say that it isnt a terribly tough tag to fill. just trying to get logistics nailed down.
we plan to go over the first friday in oct.
-
I have the tag also. Will not be tough. Seen cows 90% of my scouting trips
-
scouting trip will be in the next few weeks. he will be grabbing a motel for that until we get a solid campsite locked down

It'll be tough when that cow turns and runs straight downhill after the shot... :chuckle:
When are you coming down? I think I'm headed to the mountains on the 14th.

You can also ride ATVs on IEP land without any B.S.
I've got a permit too, just for that reason.
-
we dont have any atvs so will be hunting on foot as normal but we do have a friend about an hr away with quad and gator if necessary for recovery of the animal.
im not sure if i will be along for the scouting trips as high buck is just around the corner, i have to help my dad move next weekend, and then it will be hunt time.
we are planning for 10-4/5 - 10-8/9 and come back in november again w/some snow if that doesnt work out.

my buddy has the spokane noth bull tag we will be heading over for the 1st !

Not on all IEPL! If it ids gated it is not legal to use atv's!!!!
-
so we shouldnt have any trouble finding places to camp without staying in a campground?

Fillthefreezer: my niece (11 years old) will be hunting the youth moose in S Spokane this year. I have put out some feelers on the more primitive camping availability as well because we are going with a wall tent and making it a true camp hunt for her and her brother with the family like we do for elk in western wa.
I will let you know what I find out. Thanks for starting the post!

There is 0 ! FS in this unit..almost all IEP and they do NOT allow camping. I dont know of any campgrounds other than nearby lakes such as newman lk

We are heading up October 5th for the hunt. They are going to stick around for deer but me and grandpa will head out by the 12th. For their sake I hope they get a cow down before hand. While she is a crack shot she is only 60 pounds wet... So not too great at hauling meat just yet.

the friend i am going with is in his 50s so i will be along for keen eyes and strong back :chuckle:

There is a big chunk of DNR land close to Thompson creek.
to get there head north on starr road about 3.7 miles.
Turn Right on east hauser lake road for about a mile
keep right at the fork in the road for another half mile
turn left on N. Koth road after about half mile its state land on either side of the road.
There is only a few roads and there all gated but when you get to the top where it flattens out there are a few place where you could setup a camp off the side of the road.
From there the easiest way to Thompson creek is drive back down to east hauser lake road and take a right on Muzzy rd. that will take to the back side of the lake where Thompson creek road is.
Hope that helps.
