Title: OFFICIAL: Waterfowl Competition Rules/Teams
Post by: SilkWWU on August 20, 2008, 08:29:20 PM
*2008-09 Waterfowl Competition*

*You will need to register your team by September 25th to SilkWWU in a PM, teams will consist of two people.

*Teams consist of two people.
-If you do not have a partner to hunt with, I suggest getting one or being ok with only    having the point maximum of one limit.
   -No Substitutes
-You may hunt seperately, but each person in a partnership may only submit          two days during the week. (At least one day being a weekend)

*All Washington State Hunting Laws-Federal Regulations must be followed.

*Teams will be on a running tally of points throughout the year.

*For twelve weeks, one person from your team will post your team scores, including pictures, and descriptions of your limit.  IE:  We killed four ducks, two mallard drakes, 1 bufflehead drake, and 1 hen mallard (Picture Must be Included!) Pictures/Scores must be posted no later then Friday night.
-Saturday Oct 11, 2008 will be Day one of Week one and the tournament will continue    through Friday January 2nd.

*All hunting must be done INSIDE Washington State.

*There is no ammunition limit UNLESS the area you are hunting specifically states an ammunition limit.

*You may report a maximum of two days per competition week (one must be a Saturday or Sunday--both may be used, but at least one reported day has to be a weekend).

*East and West will be combined into one point system.

*There is no monetary reward for this tournament, but there will most likely be a traveling trophy.

*Also, there is a lot of "honor system" that goes into reporting, I encourage everyone to hunt ethicaly and report ethicaly.

So are we able to forfeit some weeks?  I have an Antelope tag to fill in Montana, I will bw gone the 10th of Oct. to the 16th or 17th.  Then I have a Arizona Coues Whitetail tag to fill.  For that I will be gone Oct. 22nd- Nov. 1st or 2nd.  And If we are not successful on the high hunt I and TCHC will be gone for most if not all of the late Whitetail hunt!  I know we will not win but don't count us out!

Myself and Josh are in the Same boat...  We try and get out as much as possible together but its not going to be every week, but on the weeks we don't hunt together we will both be hunting, just not at the same place.  I see no reason why that couldn't count as our score for the week, otherwise we will be missing out on a few weeks.
Or lets Say when I go back to Kansas for the Pheasant Opener  :chuckle:  are you saying Choclab gets no points because he wasn't hunting "WITH" me???

Just wondering if there was any particular reason that gadwall and ring-necked ducks were left off the list??

i have a baby due on oct. 16th and i am not going to be able to hunt all the time i mean i will get out like 1 or 2 times a week but I think we should be able to hunt with out our partners at least one day! at the end of the week we can combind our scores and post them. this will make it easier for everyone cause we all have jobs and its hard to work around other peoples plans. i am a bricklayer and i get rained out from work a lot in the winter so on those days i will go hunting and my partner will be working.

That has already been changed, you do NOT always have to hunt with your partner

Well, I went back to the Gun Club tonight to follow up on a couple dead-eyes I had approached tues. night about partnering up for the big contest.  I discussed the situation with the 2 older gents, but it was obvious there was no way I was going to convince them it was in the team's best interest to take high point birds other then your normal  1 pt. puddle ducks. The one dude even kinda stormed off mad mumbling something about a pine board, some wine and mergansers. Must be a delicacy from his childhood :dunno: So I'm left standing there thinking what's a guy gotta do to get a darned partner anyway??? So then my spirits picked up as I noticed a young kid down on trap #1 just smokin' clays with a .410 single. You could tell he was a "natural". Come to find out Jimmy's 13 and lives on a farm 10 miles out of town with his mom and 9 brothrs/sisters. Only catch is, I gotta pick him up AND take him home AND buy his shells which will end up costing about $50-60 or more  a week. I was at Sportsman's and the only non-toxic shotshells they had in .410 are like $35/box :yike:  He thought they could use the extra meat. Says he keeps practiced up by shooting yellow jackets with his Red Ryder on the fly. I won't know for sure about him till school starts, 'cause he doesn't have a computer, not even a TV, so he can check the website and contest out. He's all jacked about it though, ' specially when I told about the little spot I have that NOBODY else knows about. That some of the birds had been swimming,  splashing, and diving in that pond for years with nobody taking a shot at them .  Well, I've got my fingers crossed, hoping it works out. Now I gotta figure out how to tell the little woman that I am going to need another $250-300 a month for hunting "expenses". Then I started thinking this might not even be contest legal as it would be like paying someone to hunt with you, almost like paying a guide. I'll keep you posted on any furher developments, Butch

If anybody wants to team up with me, I plan to maybe go out about once or twice during the contest.  If I tag out early on game I actually don't have to make into sausage to be able to stomach, I may get out a little more.

I'll sign up as a single.

Until there is someone looking for a partner.

But even if I don't, i'm in for this!  I found some good puddle jumping spots, might be a lot of mallards but I need to hunt a lot this year so I will put up some points.

From what I understand, we could hunt separately but what i'm not to sure on, is if we would then have two bag limits to submit or would distance partners have to submit as they were one hunter?

 :dunno:

If we could combine bags on a day or weekend, I don't think the 5 points missed by not hunting together would matter to much.

I'm not saying i'll limit out a lot, but if someone thinks they'll be a weekend hunter, it would be great for me, cause I think for the majority of my hunts they will be late evening jumps or early morning jumps during the week.

if you sign up with a partner you get points and at the end your groups points are divided by 2 and are counted together as 1 person....2 people hunting together can collect more points ultimately even when divided in half......

While one hunter can collect all his ponts and what not.....

if you sign up as partners you are graded on a partners scale, but 2 count as 1 person.....even if you dont hunt together we still need to know what you got together for the combined week.....

I think i'm making this way more complicated then it should be, I feel like i'm in algebra class  :P

So because the bag limit is 7, if me and someone on the west coast.

He goes hunting on weds, gets 7 drake teal: 14 points
I go hunting on thursday, get 7 drake teal: 14 points
He goes hunting on saturday, gets 7 drake teal: 14 points
I go hunting on sunday, get 7 drake teal: 14 points

The scores get combined into 56 points for the week?

Or we can only submit my thursday then his saturday, for a score of 28 points?

Then at the end, our team score would be 28 or 14 points for the week?

Sorry for the confusion, i'm usually the last to get stuff.

Ellsworth

you would add up the combined weeks total, and because you are choosing to hunt with a partner you would get and additional point for every hunt you hunt together and then when saterday comes your points are divided in half.......

just once.

You would get a team score of 28.  You each can submit two days per week.  BUT remember, at least one of the days HAS to be a weekend (Sat/Sun).

Agreed. There are spots where people can kill Goldeneyes regularly. Too much logistics for me to travel there very often. I'm not the competitive type so it doesn't matter for me very much as far as the competition is concerned.

The last 3 months? one word, FootBall.. Senior outside linebacker in high school. This is my last year. Which makes me sad knowing my football days are coming to an end, but I still go hunting every chance a get right now. Been hitting up the pheasant release site next to my house on weekends. Bow hunting elk last month. As soon as football is over my best friend, Middle linebacker for our football team, and I will have a very serious case of senioridous, were we will be attending duck blinds, and tree stands 1st period instead of history class. :IBCOOL: we got all our permission tied up and blinds ready to go. just waiting. 8)

DID I WIN?!?! :o :dunno: ;)

hahaha in my book you're a winner!  Looks like Master hunter Silky couldn't handle this...   He still checks in on damn near a daily basis but doesn't post anymore.

So will there be an 09-10 comp again?

I bet you could get a couple small manufacturers, like refugerat or someone like that to sponsor this type of deal. Gives them a lot of exposure and boosts incentive for hunters.

Once any money and prizes are in the game then it becomes illegal for a competition. So whatever "sponsor" means it might be an illegal action according the the regs.

Yes you did win!  But no unfortuantely I had kind of stopped checking in for a while.  I started workign 7 days a week from december 1st to February 1st.  So I really didn't have time to be online as much.  If it showed me checking in, it's because I never log out!  But ya you guys freaking cleaned house this year.  Would love someone else to do this next year, to much freakin work!

Is it to late to sign up for this or is this last years set up as we can shoot canvasbacks again.  You should award more points to the more desirable birds to harvest like mallards.

Hey I will def play this year, but I underestimated the time it would take to actually set this whole thing up and keep track of points.  Someone else wants to do it, go ahead!

I would like to jump in but I'm deployed until Dec.  Could there be a handicap given or some points towards my total at the end of the year?  Also if someone wants an partner I live in Oak harbor and I have a dog.

Nice.  Oh and Spud, if you go on guided hunts, it doesn't count towards your point value  :chuckle:
