Well this is the first year in as many years as I can remember, that I won't be hunting archery on the opening day. As my Dad and hunting crew are washing gear, getting bikes ready and loading equipment, it hit me all at once. The weird feeling of not being on the mountain on opening day. The preparation leading to the hunt, the camp set up, the sleepless night before the season and getting up at 3am, it truly is a weird feeling.
To all early bow hunters, I hope the season goes well and elk hit the ground

I have been there many times! Sometimes work and or family commentments have been too pressing. I hope you get to the woods soon!

I will be heading out on friday, so a 3 day wait shouldn't be to long :dunno:. I will be hunting muzzy this season so I will be just the caller/camera man on this hunt. Can't wait for the crisp cool morning air and the bugling bulls.

I am with you completely! I drew my first bull tag for washington this year, pretty stoked about it!

I hunt modern, but I am with you. There has been a few years in the last 10 when I just couldn't afford to go hunting. When that happens I am pretty depressed for a couple of weeks, and often find myself staring out at the mountains longing to be up under the trees somewhere. This year is looking pretty tight, but I am going one way or another. Anyone notice about a week ago you could start smelling fall in the air? That always tells me hunting season is nearby! Good luck to all you stick (bow) hunters! Bring down a big one!

Yes, very wierd indeed! I have a Toutle bull tag that starts Saturday, but my buds are in Winston hunting.....so it was really wierd this morning at work when I get a text at 9am that they already have a bull down......I feel im missing out.... :bash:

Dr.Death, that is a fun tag. Lots of ground to cover with lots of elk habitat.
congrats to you're crew for tagging a bull.

That is a good time to hunt elk. We usually stay the entire early season. We use the first week to check all our hot spots and let the pressure die down and then really go after them hard.
This year has just been off for me, usually I have racked up months of scouting but this year I have not step foot in the woods. A house remodel and football has kept me very busy. Come Oct. it is on

I normally hit the tail end of the season but this year I'm nearly packed and headed out tomorrow afternoon!
