Title: When should I worry and take my dog to the vet?
Post by: Naches Sportsman on September 12, 2012, 10:10:44 PM
I took my 3 year old lab fly fishing with my up the rattlesnake yesterday and ever since we have got back, she is limping.  She is favoring the same shoulder she dislocated at 6 months old and sprained numerous times. She is not acting like this is a sprain or strain so I am thinking it is worse.

Should I call the vet tomorrow?

I guess now is the best time to know if she will be out for hunting season.  I am not trying to rile her up or letting her run.  I got her locked in my room for the night under close supervision.

thanks for any advice.

You could give her a buffered aspirin to help the swelling/ pain tonight.

How old is the dog now? Is the dog overweight?

If it's hot or the skin is red I'd take her in

if not, and everything else seems good (eating drinking) I'd kennel her in a quiet place a few days make her take it easy ahwile.

Buy some DMSO and apply it to her shoulder. I use it and it works wonders.
