Title: Hunting partner fell asleep
Post by: bsmith5913 on September 13, 2012, 07:13:13 AM
This was taken during a calling session yesterday afternoon. We had just been calling for about 30 minutes and decided to wait on our spot for a little bit, 5 minutes later I hear some heavy breathing and look over and he's asleep face down on his rifle. He thought the picture was hilarious and I know he'll see it on here later today.

Just as well--that big red face would have scared the game away anyway... :chuckle:  :chuckle:

Isn't that the whole point of hunting? To go outside and sleep under a tree somewhere.

It's amazing how heavy your eyelids can get when you try to stay alert!  :chuckle:

I've been caught in that EXACT pose before.  I brushed it off and claimed I was making meticulous adjustments to my scope to account for wind and elevation.

That is how I killed my first turkey. Sound asleep, woke up and was surrounded by a flock of fall birds.
I snore too much now to make it a very effective hunting style  :chuckle:

I'm convinced ..... thoroughly convinced ..... that snoring is hands down one of the best go to calls when things are slow in the turkey woods.  It's worked for me more times than I'd like to admit

Hmmmm. Whatever happened to hunting partner confidentiality?    :chuckle:
Only reportable if the game walked across his legs.

I'd say his only error was in snoring.

In Basic Training I learned the very tedious skill of closing my eyes will staying in a perfect prone position.

Well done sir, but try to make it so you're at least looking down range! ;-)

We had a guy fall sound asleep while bear hunting.  I was with his hunting partner about 200 yards away and we could hear him snoring.  We snuck up on him and carefully placed a huge pile of bear poop just inches from his head.  Then backed off about fifty yards and started yelling and running at him.  "Jim!  Jim! Are you ok?".  He woke up in a startled fog asking us what the deal was.  I said, "Wholly crap! I thought that bear had killed you.  From our angle it looked like he was sitting on your chest eating you!"  Then his buddy and I stopped talking, pointed at the poo and started to laugh.  "Dude, that bear tried to poop on your head!"

We never did fess up to placing it there.  If his hunting partner has not spilled the beans he is still telling the story of the day a bear tried to poop on his head while he slept.

I crawled up under a log in the Little Natches during a Muzzleloader Elk hunt one time and fell asleep. I woke up with the cap removed from the nipple and a stick shoved through my trigger guard. I was so embarrassed that I didn't say a word to any of the other guys. That night around the fire, everyone started laughing and they broke it to me it was them.
I still sleep better under a tree than I do in a tent at night.

I'm scared to fall asleep now.... Yes I'm 28... After cow calling for a while, then dozing off to wake up to a cougar 12 feet from you with eye contact and a low growl.... Then piss yourself unknowingly while not even getting the shot off with the ml which felt like 300# of pressure on the trigger because I didn't take the safety off... Haven't slept under a tree in almost 5 years...
