Title: Silver fishing in Everett area
Post by: Ripper on September 13, 2012, 05:14:29 PM
I started this topic in my other thread, Edmonds Coho derby, but that's over now so It's time to start another. I will be going out periodically during the week in the mornings and will have an open seat sometimes. Pm me if you want to go. I just ask for some gas money, or a gallon of 2 cycle oil. I go through lots of both. I'll be fishing from 8:30 to 12:30 then I have to go to work.

Today I went out with FC and Kola16. Fishing was kind of slow but we still boated 4 from 4lbs to maybe 7 lbs. This is the first time I met Kola and he is very much into fishing and the outdoors. It was fun to have him along. He will be going out with me tomorrow and I have an open seat if anyone else wants to go. I have all the gear, I keep it on the boat all the time, so you just have to show up and fish. Bring your own lunch and something to drink and have a good time. I launch at the Everett Marina.
Sorry I didn't take any pics today, I forgot, but your smiling face could wind up here with a nice silver in your hands.

Ripper,

Really great offer you putting out there.  Nice.  I will maybe be going on Saturday.  I'm determined to try to catch a coho while mooching a herring.  Good luck.

It was a blast. Thanks Ripper. I had salmon for dinner tonight

I did get pics, but my phone does not take great picture but here they are. The second pic is a flock of geese, and one of them is banded  :yike: Can you pick the "right" one  :chuckle:

Maybe I'll run into you out there but I'm usually off the water by 8:30am.  Been out a few times this week and caught some, nothing too big though.  Gill netting has started around the shipwreck and the fishing has suffered but it should pick up again and the bigger fish should move in soon.

There was a native crab boat out there today. I was wondering why the fishing was so slow today, I didn't know they started netting. I'll have to run over to Point no point and give that a try in the morning.
well Kola, no takers, so It's just you and me tomorrow.

I think it will still be good. This weekend is the time to go. Next weekend is another derby so parking can be an issue as well as launching. However, if you are fishing the derby then good luck. Should be some bigger males with a nice hook nose showing up a bit more often. I know they usually show up more in the later part of the season.

2 fish today. We were holding off to save the rest of you some fish  ;) I don't care how many fish we catch it is still a ton of fun. Beats a kayak any day  :chuckle: More fish for dinner tonight

Kola and I headed out today, fishing was way slower than it has been the last few times out. maybe it's due to all the pressure from sporties or from the gill netters. Anyway , like Kola said we boated 2 and had a few take downs that we missed. still a fun day. I asked Kola to take a pic but he wanted to wait for more fish so we passed. He wants a pic with limits of stud sized silvers! Well, don't we all. Going out again Sunday I think. Will keep you all posted.

I was being positive, but......I couldn't argue with that  8) I have had much worse days fishing for little trout, so to me, I thought it was a great day.

I'm ready to go. Got two rods rigged for the riggers and one rod rigged for running a cutplug off the stern. Ripper is coming by this evening and will be doing the fabled "dance of the coho" around my boat for good luck. Hope to have lines in by sun up tomorrow. If anyone is fishing south of Mukilteo and sees a White/Gray North River swing on by and say hey.

I am going to be out there in my friends 22' Hewescraft tomorrow morning.  Not sure of the color, haven't been out in it before.  He has it in the water somewhere up around Everett.  Not for sure where we will be, I am guessing somewhere just south of Everett working south towards the shipwreck I guess.  If anyone has been out and whackin, I would love to get some info on where might be a good place to start.  I am normally a south sound guy.  I keep hearing around the oil docks is a good place to start.

On a strong outgoing tides start just North of shipwreck and troll South past Picnic Point.  We limited Friday there (4 fish) by 8:00am, deeper than usual – 65’ early going down to 125’ after the sun came up.

Ripper came by and we chatted and he mentioned the same thing. Shallow early then drop 'em down as soon as the sun gets on the water. I sent him home with some variety of bear meats so my karma meter is showing I'm due some fish tomorrow.

Yep go get em! I really do need to get out there. They're stacking up like cord wood with the lack of rain, with a few hook nose showing up. Troll east to west shallow early working your way down to 150+ ft. by mid day. U-V everything purple and green with a herring strip on your hooks.  8)

I'm going to give it one more try on Sunday.  I will be going after church so probably will end up on the water from 2 pm until dark.  I know most everyone seems to be getting their limits in the morning so not sure what to expect.  I'm going to send a cut plug herring down to 150'  then work it back up.  It's all a big experiment.

That's great Ripper!  My boy and I ended up having a very special day also. We decided to hit the evening high tide throwing buzz bombs from shore and he cuaght his first silver ever on ultra light gear.

That's awesome singleshot! I love catching them from shore on a buzz bomb. It's great fun! And to do it your boy makes it all the more special. H2O, tonight I had fresh salmon, and bear chops. You were right on the money, they tasted just like regular steak. Not the same as the bear steaks I've had before. I actually thought they lacked flavor. Just like steaks from the store. :chuckle: Non the less, we gobbled them down with some wine. It was a fanfrickingtastic day.
Title: Re: Silver fishing in Everett area
Post by: h20hunter on September 17, 2012, 06:25:05 AM
I know right. As far as the quality of meat goes I was hoping to have some bear flavor. As mellow as those steaks are I guess I'm just going to have enjoy them regardless. We should all be so unlucky. Yep, last night was a feast. Between the six adults, my two kids, and one infant that eats as much as anyone we hammered those filets. It really was a good morning for us. The whole goal was to get my buddy Chad on his first salmon in the salt. Here is a picture of the happy fisherman working the rod and after landing one of his two first saltwater salmon.

I knew you were gonna do great as soon as I knew I couldn't go with ya - that happened last time too. Thanks again for the invite.

But, hearing that you had some good bonding with yer boy, totally negates the feeling I had of missing out. Some things are just more important than others. Very cool.  ;)

Title: Re: Silver fishing in Everett area
Post by: h20hunter on September 17, 2012, 02:39:26 PM
Nope. Not me. Man were there a lot of boats out. I'd hate to see the crowd this weekend. For what it is worth we had all three of our fish hit a blue/white bucktail fly. I added a little spin and glo in front for some extra action. Green E-Chip flasher with a fairly short leader. All the hit it hard and were hooked solid.

Well fishing was not what I expected. According to the fish checkers the commercials have been netting everyday but today. They checked way less than a fish per boat. We got 1 so I guess we did well. Fished out along the west side of the bar then crossed channel to picnic point. only saw 1 other boat with a fish. Yuck, it looks like the next 2 days will long days of trolling hoping for 1 fish. Thanks a lot!

We have not seen any nets in Edmonds and the last few days have been two man limits in very little time. For the derby it might be worth a strole south, its not that long in the boat. :twocents:

:yike: Holy crap Singleshot, I'll say you should have bought a derby ticket. We ended up weighing in 2 - 9# fish and  7.78 # fish. We limited the boat, 6, but fishing was far from hot. Banged one about every 45 min's. Back at tomorrow on my boat with my son and GF. I think we'll do a little better. I like where and how I fish a little better than my friend did today. Still, it was great day on the water with 2 very good people.

Well I didn't win the derby, but we had a good time. I'm still wore out from all the running around, setting down riggers, checking lines........., but I wouldn't change it for the world! I entered a 9# fish which got me a bag of tackle. My son entered a 7lb fish that got him a prize in the kids derby. My friend Dave entered a 9.3 and got some tackle also. I lucked out again when I won a nice Abu Garcia reel for a side raffle I entered. My GF's prize was meeting Glen Hall from Hawg Quest and getting her pic taken with him. That's her favorite outdoor show. I'll post a few pic's when I get them uploaded.

Way to go Rip!  gotta love them Swedish level winds, I've got two blue's just like that, my only complaint is the drag washers are only good for about 20 big fish and then they need to be replaced with carbon matrix washers.

Wow CP that double rainbow looks awesome! Good job on the silvers, they are some great looking fish for sure. I'm going to hit it after work tonight, fish through the high tide change. I'm still trying to bonk a big boy. 10 lbs. is my biggie so far this year. I'd love to nail a 15. Biggest ever was 13. Tomorrow it's back to the bear woods.
